Why did they sing the Canada national anthem at the game? Do they always?

Im glad I was a big fan during the NBA’s best time - the 80’s. Everything thing else has been a far second

I’ve gotten burned by the players not playing Missed out on curry and Zion one time That’s a real problem
the load management thing is a huge issue. In a league driven by its superstars not knowing who’s going to play on any given night is a massive problem. I get guys rest in baseball or whatever but baseball isn’t as superstar driven as basketball. Football somewhat is but you don’t have to second guess whether or not mahommes or Barkley or Garrett or whoever else is going to play if they’re healthy.

It’s crazy how popular it was back then. No matter what group of people or age you would run into guys were talking about it like the NFL is now or was recently.

The problem is, there’s nothing to talk about. Strategy seems to be the same for almost every team. Games all tend to play out similarly. The league has sold out to offense, so statistics are skewed and there’s no healthy balance in gameplay.

Honestly, the off court drama never really pulled me in anyway. It just seems that Silver is catering to the lowest common denominator of fans. “MuH dUnKs aNd 3s”.

Lebron's legacy will be destroying the league's popularity by team hopping and fake activism.

Pause. Gelo couldn’t make the league so he is a rapper now?

When did the rapping arc start?

The fake activism thing is laughable. That’s not what made me stop watching. His team hopping only killed his legacy. For me, it’s 100% gameplay.

It was way more than 3 players back then.

There were also real rivalries not the bs respect you see today.
Guys played hard and played every game.
Players didn’t control the league.
No prima donnas and social justice whining.

Man, this is so true.
Every team has some time off during a game, makes a run during the game, then starts throwing up 40 ft 3’s late to go for the win

And you see how many coaches and assistants each team has!?

Well when enough people stop tuning in or buying tickets, advertisers will stop paying and teams will be forced to lower prices and pay these fools less.

Whole system needs an overhaul.

I’m all for lower priced goods, less advertising, lower paid athletes and cheaper tickets.

That's because the game has been basically solved. The style today is the most efficient play that math can figure out. That's why almost every team plays so similarly.

It's the most skilled, advanced, and efficient the game has ever been and the results are kind of boring.

You touched on a good point about style and stats. Listening to Silver discuss shortening games a couple weeks ago his main hesitation was that stats might suffer. Why is that priority, well because he’s using inflated stats to cover the bad, uninteresting product and if they lose the illusion of stats the bottom will fall out.

and when they do actually play, it's blatantly obvious that they're not giving 100% unless it's the playoffs or a prime time / holiday game.

maybe 10-12 games per team of the NBA's 82-game regular season is worth watching. the rest of the games are just players and coaches going through the motions and them counting down the minutes before they can leave the arena.

fully guaranteed contracts and a league that allows the players to run things has created this horrible culture.

This is a really good answer. Basically the load management in general and every team jacking 70 3 pointers a game and making it pretty much every team's main offense. It's stale and unwatchable.

The 80s had magic and bird

The 90s had mj

Early 2000s had Shaq and Kobe

Rest of 2000s and 2010s had lebron

Now we have Jokic

I mean, Jokic is awesome, but he can’t carry a league as the face and best player. And the nba is a league carried by the players not the actual teams
