Someone in another thread made what I thought was a good observation in that one of the reasons she got such a sentence is it makes it more likely our special needs administration will make a trade for her. If the sentence was short they would probably just let her serve it out.

Why bring race into this? I’m sure black republicans will also be pissed seeing that there are black people still in American jails for weed. I cannot believe Jake Sullivan did that. What a complete moron. In return, Russia asked for a convicted murderer in GERMANY to be released. Then the White House press secretary publicly said Russia had counter proposed with a "non-serious offer." This was all AFTER Lavrov requested negotiations happen in private.
