Would the BIG10 and PAC12 ever recover if the SEC/ACC/BIG12 decide to play this fall?

It would basically doom their conferences and most of their recruits would likely decommit right?

Another question will be, will ESPN ever recover if college football isn't played?

The amount of revenue ESPN will lose will be devastating.

yeah i posted about this yesterday

these colleges are funded by TV money

outside of select NFL games, CFB is the prestige programming of ESPN, CBS, NBC, Fox Sports, etc.

not playing this year may cancel EVERYthing

Didn't Disney just post its first quarterly loss in like 20 years?

How businesses work is, if one part of the business is hemmoraging money, that part of the business is sold off or shut down.

If ESPN’s lawyers determine that the conferences voided the contract, they can sue to nullify the contract.

That would staunch a lot of the bleeding if there is no football.

The problem is ESPN will not be bringing in the bonanza of ad revenue it needs.

nullifying the money they pay out to the conferences doesn't mean they're going to be able to recoup the add revenue they're losing by not having those conferences play on their networks in the fall. If they're paying these conferences a sum of money to have rights to show their games, they're logically expecting to gain more from the ad revenue showing those games, otherwise they wouldn't be paying these conferences what they are. There is just no way to mitigate losing potentially an entire season of college sports when that accounts for over 50% of their programming. That's akin to a business not being open for a year but saying they'll be ok because they don't have overhead expenses.

So it’s not all bad news.

I highly doubt ESPN is still going to be on the hook for paying for 2020's TV rights if the season is cancelled and they don't have any games to broadcast.

But even if ESPN isn't paying out money for CFB TV rights this year, they still have to pay their employees and some high paid on-air personalities under contract. Plus they're going to absolutely hemorrhage subscribers because without football in the fall, a lot of people are going to drop ESPN from their streaming/cable package if they have the option
