Would horse racing exist as a sport without gambling?

Would the multi million dollar purses, stud fees, media coverage, etc still be there? I would imagine no other sport is as dependent on gambling for its existence as horse racing.

No, which is why it’s now struggling. It used to be the only legal game in town in many places.

Absolutely not lol
It’s like those 10 dudes that go to every baseball game and keep their book. That’s the only people you’re left with if you take gambling away.

Maybe the Triple Crown since those draw interest from non gamblers.

No chance it would survive.

With the BBB tax changes on gambling I wonder how much the horses will be affected.

Racing is popular in Saudi Arabia and some other Middle East countries where there is no gambling at the track. The fans still manage to bet via apps and such, but I don’t know if the track is earning any revenue from that gambling.

This is a very good point.

If there was no gambling....would any buddy, ever come up to you and say: "hey, lets go to the track"....
That answers your question.

Correct:
You can bet on anything now
Used to, going to the track was easy

No it wouldn't and the people within horse racing who believe it would are delusional.
I'm not sure how it is in the US but at times in the UK the closed circle that is the horse racing community make comments that show contempt for punters, as if they would have jobs without it. Their prize money comes from levies on gambling companies, and as a real easy screenshot every single race on tv advertises the odds. If they didn't need gamblers they wouldn't show it.
Having said, love horse racing and love gambling
