Would Patterson leave Texas and become a head coach again? There are already some noteworthy openings and potentially some more.
Auburn (dead man walking), Nebraska?, Arizona State?

Feel like Nebraska is about to hire Bill O’Brien

I don’t think his desire is there to be honest

I figured that he was basically the DC for Texas on the sideline watching the Bama game

Meet your new defensive quality control coach, Huskers

I watched that Alabama game. The Texas defense really played a good game. I know Alabama did not play their best but the gameplan was right on.

I used to think this, too. It appeared like he got burned out and complacent towards the end at TCU. And when you consider his run there, and the fact he already had his own statue on campus, you could hardly blame him.
However, a recharge of the batteries and a change of scenery might be what he needed. He also straight up quit midseason when TCU asked him to do a farewell tour and retire. It seemed like he didn't want the impression he was done for good, and he may feel like he has something to prove now.

I just can’t believe anyone would hire that guy. He’s a joke.

Absolutely, otherwise he should quit coaching. Has to be a P5 school though.

He'll be 63 in February of 2023 - not sure he would undertake an overhaul - especially like Nebraska. He also seems like such a "Texas guy". I have a hard time picturing him coaching any other teams outside the state.

At a high pressure job like Auburn or Nebraska? He's in his 60s now.

TCU is paying him through 2024 season. Reportedly $6M/yr.

He's probably made close to $70M in his career and he hates recruiting and doesn't want to be anywhere that doesn't have a good NIL program.
At Texas an analyst, he can basically do whatever he wants. Nobody is going to frick with him and Sark probably has him running the whole defense so he can focus on the offense and recruting.
As analyst, Patterson literally can't even recruit.
I'm also sure the job is immensely less stressful and he never has to beg anyone for anything at Texas.

Seems like a great fit for Nebraska.

I wanted him when we previously had openings but I don’t think so now.

Is that going to be the new motto for Auburn? Got to go with past history and not with the present. Coaches are now getting lazy and don't try their best anymore.

Not even sure what you’re getting at as this post makes no sense but coaches do get older just like players.
