Would Cincinnati winning the national championship be best for college football?

As an Alabama fan, I obviously don't want this to happen, but as a fan of college football....if it can't be us let it be them. Florida was the last first-time winner of a major college football national championship and that was all the way back in 1996. 25 years ago. I feel like some new blood winning it all would silence some of the critics of the FBS who claim it's nothing but a "blue blood" sport.

Imagine if the Bearcats win the title and the Bengals win the SB?

I think Michigan winning would, essentially new - old blood. Plus a massive fan base and midwestern representative not named Ohio state.

Rooting for Cincy, but I'd be relatively happy with anyone but Bama winning it this year

Not my first choice but I'll take it.

Michigan or Cincinnati would both be great for the sport. Bama and UGA would be bad.

The sec+Clemson dominating the sport for 15 years now is killing the sport IMO.

Georgia has had to wait long enough in my mind. Them and Bama winning it aren't the same thing.

While that is true, in terms of wins and winning percentage since the year 2000, they are either #2 or #3 in the SEC behind Alabama and (maybe) LSU. They have been in the discussion multiple times for the national championship whereas the closest Cincinnati has gotten was 2009 where they finished undefeated in the regular season before getting blown out in the Sugar Bowl by Florida in Tim Tebow's last collegiate appearance.

Due to Fickell whining like a bitch all year, I hope Bama beats the dogshit out of them.

Sure in SEC fans minds that’s the case.

Nationally the view would be they are yet another school from the south who has been dominating the recruiting rankings and gets every rankings break for the last 5 years despite getting dominated in at least one game yearly.

They shouldn’t even be in the playoffs much less national champions

Cincinnati obviously is the G5 and pollsters went out of their way to underrate Michigan all year. It literally took the last regular season game of the year for them to get serious talk

We're like 14 years into SEC fatigue nationally

06 Florida
07 LSU
08 Florida
09 Alabama
10 Auburn
11 Alabama
12 Alabama...

He promoted his program. He did exactly what Saban has done when Bama needed to be thrust into the discussion.

You also cannot compare Cincy’s position in all of this. A G5 team needs to be undefeated and catch some breaks. No P5 would have that concern.

Most likely a repeat of the 1995 World Series is going to happen
