Knowing what you know about 2019 Burrow, and what we knew about 2017 Trubisky, Watson, and Mahomes, would Burrow have been the first QB taken?

possibly... depends on who was selecting 1st....

but if we are allowing for what we know now, there's no way in hell Mahomes wouldn't be 1st.... Burrow and Watson would be a toss up for 2nd... and Trubisky shouldn't even be drafted...

I mean his age isn’t even really a huge deal.

But when you start comparing him to people especially Lawrence, who’ll be almost 2 full years younger at the time of draft, and his advancement for that age, it becomes a talking point

That's my point.

What a weird thread. The only people who can answer this are the people who made the decision to draft Trubisky.
Have they spoken officially on the main reasons they took Trubisky over the other two? Is Burrow better in those areas?
Bottom line is, teams fall in love with certain players and that's the end of it.

The whole thing was based on a debate where riseupfromtherubble said Burrow would have gone off 3rd or 4th for QBs in 2017. He suggested only LSU Homer's would argue otherwise.

Frankly, I think you've got to be fricking blind to think Burrow would have been picked after the damn 11th pick in 2017. Top guy this year, but the 4th guy in a class that was considered pretty damn weak is laughable.

he only legitimate knock on Burrow is his age

We just gonna totally ignore the lack of arm strength and the fact he's only been productive 1 season. Again, he had the same intangibles his first year at LSU, where were the stats?

Based on 1/9/2020 knowledge:

Mahomes
Burreaux
Watson
Trubisky

If we transplant his 2019 season to then, Burreaux gets picked first followed by the other three in the same order as they originally were.

He was in the system for all of two months before starting. Look how he ended the year as he got comfortable with his guys and the scheme got a little better. Or don't, since you clearly are all in on trying make him look bad.

There is no way with what we know now if those 4 were released and you asked every gm and coach the order they would take them Mahomes is far and a way the top choice, Watson is the clear second one, and it would be close with Trubisky and Burrow.

Another factor is that Burrow is 23 with no NFL experience. Watson and Mahomes are 24 and Mitch is 25 and all have been in the NFL for 3 years.

I love that you're using actual NFL success as a determining factor in where someone would be drafted.

I wasn’t the one who brought up the initial hypothetical or the hypothetical I quoted either.

Mind you, y’all are the ones who thought the Saints/Brees were going to/winning the Super Bowl when I told you back in like September that they wouldn’t make it out of the first round. Soooooooooooooooo

What does that have to do with decision making and his supposed high IQ? A QB as great as Joe Burrow should be able to thrive in any system with all the intangibles you guys have espoused him with right? He was average before Joe Brady, theres no harm in admitting that. He was great with Joe Brady, that cannot be denied either

I love the complex this board has that they can’t admit that two things can’t both be great. Only one person can get credit on here. No ability for nuance

It's a low IQ thing.

Wait, a toss up for 2nd with the knowledge we have presently? Say you're joking right now

Oh wow, I didn't read this last page before responding. It seems that many posters think Joe Burrow would be selected before Deshaun Watson today

I've never seen so many completely unbiased takes
