Who would you choose??

All these dudes had decent NFL careers. Doug Williams and Hostetler had MUCH worse careers.

Steve Young? Why? Because frick that guy.

Yeah, he only retired as the highest rated passer in the history of the league...

My vote is Dilfer or Rypien. Doug Williams had the Tampa Bay Bucs in the NFC title game at time when they were one of the most horrendous franchises in the NFL. He also got the hell beat out of him in TB.

Williams played for a long time with a bad TB Bucs team too, so I think he had a decent career.

I'll give you Hostetler though.

How long did Jim McMahon play?? More than 3 years?? I only remember him from the 86 bears team with that great defense.

He played with them or like 8 years. BUT THE D was good. MAC had an ATTITUDE that made that WHOLE team run!!!

1. Jeff Hostetler (he gets bonus negative points for his horrible mustache.
2. Trent Dilfer
3. Brad Johnson
4. Doug Williams (look at his career numbers, dude was a mostly a back-up QB most of his career.)

I guess it depends on your definition of "decent." What is not in dispute though is that it was worse than Dilfer's and significantly worse than Johnson's.

Doug Williams had worse numbers than Dilfer and MUCH worse numbers than Brad Johnson. There is no way to reasonably argue that either one of those 2 were worse.

At one time I thought pretty highly of Brad Johnson, but after last year when Romo went down & he played the worst 3 games by a QB I have seen in a long time. I mean he had no arm strength what so ever.

Just a credit to the legend that is Joe Gibbs. Winning a SB with 3 different QB's, two of which are mentioned in this thread.

Jerry Jones is slowly turning into Al Davis before my very eyes.

Rypien and Mcmahon don't belong on that list.

Hostetler and Williams do.

I thought Brad Johnson had a pretty solid season that year with TB though...

Dilfer was far better than people now give him credit for. He went to a Pro Bowl and he shows up on career leaderboards (albeit fairly low). He's not a Hall of Famer by any means, but he wasn't just some guy. He had a big arm, was efficient, and had enough savvy to stick around for 13 seasons, starting 113 games.

I'd rank him ahead of the guys listed and even toss out the correct answer for worst QB to ever win a Super Bowl:
Earl Morrall (SB V - Colts)

You may be right, but they played in total different eras You can't compare stats of QB's from the late 70's, early 80's to players from the 90's/00's.

That said, no way is the answer Brad Johnson.

I thought that was Unitas? Didnt he throw the longest TD in SuperBowl history in that game 70+ yards, I think it has been broken since.

Johnson was never a qb who you thought of when it came to arm strength, but he was 40 years old last year. That might be a reason he wasn't throwing very well.

Unitas did throw the pass (75 yds), but I think Morrall started both SB 3 and SB 5
