Not a 49ers fan, but I think anyone that follows football knew that wasn't going to work.

A lot of these are dumb, if they would've taken X instead of Y in the draft.

As a Falcons fan, the Cousins signing wasn't a mistake. Maybe too long, maybe too expensive, but he was still *that* much better than their other options.

Their biggest mistake was not having a plan B when it was time to send Ryan off. They never developed a QB behind him, and wandered in the desert with Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder's arse.

That, and Blank playing footsie and nearly signing Watson which directly led to Ryan leaving.

Blank needs to go.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers

Biggest mistake: Using a first-round pick on Kenny Pickett (2022)

Sometimes, the pieces just come together. With Ben Roethlisberger retiring after the 2021 campaign, the Steelers needed a quarterback. While it wasn't a great class for signal-callers, the top prospect available just happened to have spent five years down the road at the University of Pittsburgh. Coming off a season with more than 4,300 passing yards and 42 touchdowns, it was no surprise when the Steelers took Pickett.

Any team that drafts a quarterback in Round 1 hopes it has found its guy for the next decade. It didn't quite go that way in Pittsburgh, where Pickett made 24 starts over two seasons. The Steelers gave up on him after last season, trading him to the Eagles for a swap of third- and fourth-round picks and a pair of seventh-rounder.

Can't argue this and I was on the train to give him one more year under a competent OC in Smith until he threw his tantrum leading to him being dealt.

This also stood out:

It's the most notable in a series of disappointing first-round picks by the
organization

Thank God Colbert is gone. The fact Tomlin was able to make chicken salad out of the chicken shite that he left him his last couple of rosters is a testament to Tomlin's ability as a coach.

sure, but knowing that Sean wanted him and him being 1 pick away makes it relevant

Biggest mistake: Handing Cameron Jordan a two-year, $27.9 million extension (2023)

That's not even close to being their worst mistake of the past decade IMO.

My vote would go to spending two #1 draft picks in the 2018 draft to select Marcus Davenport while Lamar Jackson, Leighton Vander Esch, and Derwin James were still on the board. They could have kept the extra first round pick and selected Chris Lindstrom or Dexter Lawrence in the 2019 draft

No way this is the worst thing the Bears have done.

Since 2020, it probably was.

Trading Cooper was a salary dump. Those trades have to be made from time to time and he was coming off a mediocre year.

Yeah, that wasn't the thing that came to my mind. First thing I thought of was drafting Taco Effing Charlton over TJ Watt.

I remember the Rankin Smith era.

Blank is far from the franchise's most-pressing problems.

Rich McKay's power? Different story.

Who gives him that power?

Blank is absolutely a problem. He gets too attached to people to properly evaluate their job performance. He kept Quinn for a year too long because he liked him. He didn't hire Belichick because he wants there to be a "family environment" in Flowery Branch.

The Falcons are softer than baby shite as a team and a franchise and have been for a long time. Julio Jones signed a damn near fully guaranteed contract prior to 2019 and immediately stopped caring (stopped practicing and started tapping himself out of about 40% of offensive snaps). They're letting Kyle Pitts get away with being the laziest player in the NFL. They routinely get bullied on the lines of scrimmage and have always been fascinated with shiny toys (skill players) instead. Every press conference sounds like someone wrote it after attending an HR seminar for 2 weeks.

All are signs of a soft franchise, and it starts at the top. shite rolls downhill.

Fair enough.

Look around the local sports landscape. Who's going to be in a position to buy them? Kessler? Hard pass.

Liberty Media? Conglomerates don't own NFL franchises.

Unless there's an ATL billionaire hanging out that wants to get involved, Blank is the best of a bad situation.

titans not doing everything they could one of vrabels first years to bring Brady here instead of Tampa where he would have won a couple super bowls with prime derrick Henry. the team had the one seed in the playoffs with tannehill and it took 3 awful picks to lose to burrow by 3. also lost acf title to chiefs with a 10-0 lead. if Brady had signed here we would have won 2 super bowls

These 3 are easily worst and also some HM’s I can throw out there as well.

1. Letting lame duck Eberflus coach this year after drafting CW

2. Letting lame duck Nagy coach another year after drafting Fields

3. Trading up for Mitch vs Mahomes or Watson

HM: Hiring Shane Waldron

Meh. I mean my two favorite teams, the Cowboys and Pelicans both have ridiculous owners and the teams suffer because of it. But that's not always the case and I personally wouldn't put Blank near the top of the Falcons problems. The Detroit Lions have one of the worst owners in all of professional sport, but that team doesn't reflect the owner at all because the right people are in place. Although I guess you could make the argument that that is just a recent development

I personally would rather have Quinn than either of the two that came after. I can see why a Falcons fan would want to move on, but Quinn is not a bad coach.

I thought Blank was the one that really wanted ? But Belechick was asking for too much control. Seems like no team in the NFL wanted anything to do with his demands.

If you're talking the previous owner, William Clay Ford, Then yes he was one of the worst. he has passed away

The new owner, Sheila Hamp Ford, actually has done a great job and should get a lot credit for the turnaround as well.

As long as Blank is still the one making decisions and has McKay in his ear, nothing will change.

He needs to sell, or, tell McKay to frick off and actually hire a President of Football Ops from KC, Philly, Denver, Green Bay, or the Steelers.
