Same here. He's clearly beyond his prime. Signing Nolan was one thing -- him being a legend and all, plus being a genetic freak -- but that's a once-in-a-lifetime deal.

Didn't know that was possible.

Probably so. Can't say I'll miss him.

It wasn't that Nolan was a genetic freak. It's that he lived in the gym. What he did after starts to recoop as he started aging was nothing short of phenomenal. He busted his arse in the gym after starts to keep himself in shape.

He's been an integral part of 2 AL pennant winning teams. I would wish he comes back, just not on a $100M + contract.

Dude was clocked at 101.2 MPH way before he lifted a weight (in his LA Angel days).

While Charlie Hough watched from a Lazy Boy with a coctail and cigarette.

I know he worked out in the gym religiously, way more so than was done in that day. But to still pitch at his level in his mid-40's can't be all due to gym work.

But I don't know that that really qualifies him as a "genetic freak"

It's what he credits it to in his biography.

At the time he started in the late 60s, only Walter Johnson, Satchel Paige, Bob Feller, and Bob Gibson ever had the kind of arm Nolan had. Dude was definitely a "genetic freak."

You mean a guy credited his long run to his hard work instead of the luck of avoiding injury? That's really surprising...

Ryan worked hard. He also hit the genetic jackpot and was lucky to never suffer major injury even when he was worked like mad in his career.

I found this big arse cat used as a Halloween decoration. I'm using him as my rally cat right now.
