doing more for his sport than possibly any one has done in history in any sport, transcended golf, american icon.

And probably the reason Federer didn't do this is that he's NOT AMERICAN.

So it's a popularity contest..I thought it was athlete of the decade. Fed has more impressive numbers. Doesn't matter though. Once Tiger is found guilty of using PED's, Tiger won't be seen as AotD.

Yeah, because he's European.

I he was American that coverage of what had done would be drastically different.

Uh, no. Considering he got 3rd, a lot of the voters weren't joking either.
I think he's had the more dominant run.

When you consider all factors involved, golf is a harder sport to dominate than tennis is.

5

Fairway
Rough
Fringe
Green
Sand

That just a joke, but I think what he means is the fact that Tiger has to score lower than 100+ other golfers every weekend to win. Federer just has to beat the guys he plays.

That's a bad argument because none of the golfers matches up with Tiger 1 v. 1.

fwiw..i'm sure some of this has to do with the fact golf is an amazingly popular sport for the middle-age white male who is likely to be participating in these types of polls

seriously..have you seen some of those geezers who get all giddy at the mere hint tiger is playing in a tourney and they might get to meet him.

I know you're jsut taking the other side of the argument, like you said.

But the rebuttal to that is simple:

Tiger can have a bad round 1, and no big deal, he has 3 more days to make up for it. Another player can have a career day, and Tiger can still make up for it.

Federer has to bring his A game EVERY single match in a major. 1 bad match, and he can't still win the tournament like Tiger can. Even if he doesn't play horrible, if someone has a career day, they can take him out.
