Hell, people like Bill Clinon and Magic Johnson have recoverd from there "transgressions."
Just so you know the Lewinsky thing cost Clinton enough political capital that the Repub Congress under Gingrich was able to force him to accept real welfare reform legislation. Now, Clinton's presidential legacy benefitted from this accomplishment, but he by no means would have gone along w/o a significant dimishment of his polit cap.

how can something an 80 year old man can win at even remotely comparable to lance's feat?
What's Tiger's 40 time? Would he even have a shot at a high level performance in other sports? If you're going to be named top Athlete of the decade you need to be capable of Bo Jackson/Deion Sanders level ability.

Peyton Manning was considered, and I highly doubt he is anywhere near that level.
And for the poster that was claiming golf isn't a sport because an 80 year old with 2 bad knees can beat someone, I doubt that 80 year old is walking the course. PGA golfers walk 18 holes for 4 days. I'm not saying it is difficult, but part of the reason Tiger is so good is because he is in better shape than the rest of the players.
Long distance running is considered a sport. While it does take some skill, it is mostly based off of athleticism and endurance. Baseball is considered a sport. While it takes a good amount of athleticism, most of the time skill prevails (Tony Gwynn, Rod Beck, David Wells, Bobby Jenks, etc). Why is golf looked at differently? Golf takes a ton of skill and there is some atleticism and endurance involved.

I challenge the average person to walk along an follow a pga player for 4 consecutive rounds. Not as easy as you might think.

He's not. I guess the problem is you have to be a league marquee player to be considered. What about LeBron, he can bring it on the court and last month everyone made a big deal about how NFL ready he was

If the competition was who is the most atletic, there would be no need to vote. The competition is for best athlete. A lot more goes into that than just who is the most athletic.

i just spit out my coffee.
now do these pga players play 4 rounds in one day??
i can tell you its not that hard because i'm a cheap bastard and won't spring for a golf cart and i've actually been known to play more than 18 holes in a single day.
BY THE SAME TOKEN..let's see you ride along side Lance Armstrong up a 13% graded mountain slope after having ridden 80 miles and gone over 3 mountains already.
..and then get up the next day and do it again

Most that argue that golf is a sport, don't argue that cylcing isn't.

Woods voted athlete of the decade
Unbelievable. I know he was highly ranked out of high school, but to me he's been a bit of a bust considering the hype he came with. He was solid this year but no spectacular. His brother, Chad Jones is actually better than he is.

you serious? I think golf is a sport, but to say it's hard to walk 18 holes, in which your caddy is carrying your clubs, is ridiculous.

Fed has only broke the record for most Majors ever AND put together a string of 22 straight grandslam semi finals or better, 10 consecutive finals, and 17 of 18.
That's arguable as impressive as anything Tiger has done in the past decade.
You can choose Tiger, no argument from me. But to act like it's laughable to choose Fed is...well...laughable.
+1. If tennis was more popular in the US, and if Fed was American, his dominance wouldn't be as overlooked.

Federer being European is probably the #1 reason he didn't win.

i don't think he wins even if he is american.

Why not? If you look at the numbers, Fed has had more impressive stats this past decade. What's the other reason?

popularity, doing more for his sport than possibly any one has done in history in any sport, transcended golf, american icon.
