I’m thinking he might have a hard time getting a cardiologist to clear him to play football again.
Often when someone has a fibrillation/cardiac arrest event without a clear cause they implant a pacer/defibrillator.He obviously can’t play football with that.
If a cardiologist won’t clear him I doubt a NFL team would take a chance on him.

Pretty sure this will go away and a settlement will happen. I doubt he plays again with the liability.

I couldn't imagine the NFL allowing him to play again no matter what a doctor says. No way would they take the risk of that happening again to him, plus as far as Damar goes, this guy just cheated death, I know I wouldn't want to take my chances with it.

The guy started asking if they won immediately after being woken up. He thought they still continued the dang game after that… he’s coming back.

Chris Pronger had a similar thing happen to him in the 1998 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He played until 2011 and was one of the top players in the league.

His heart isn't the biggest issue. They still have to monitor his other organs over the foreseeable future.

was wondering this same question the OP had yesterday and this seems like the likely reason why he will not be returning.

I keep hearing about this and can't figure it out.

CPR doesn't do the kind of damage that would require proning a patient...nor the high oxygen requirements that this 24 year old was needing in the beginning.

Maybe they’ll let him continue under special rules.

Like, he gets to tackle by only touching them with two hands, nobody else is allowed to touch him, and he has a dedicated crash-cart ten that roams the sidelines ready to jump in if needed…

Probably depends on what exactly happened to him medically to result in him going into cardiac arrest. If he has some sort of heart issue or defect, then I would say no. If it was a totally freak thing with no underlying issue as the cause, then I guess he could come back if he is cleared and chooses to do so.

He should. Nobody will want to tackle him.

MacKenzie Phillips went without a heartbeat longer than Damar, and he played for Arkansas afterward.

Arkansas Outland Trophy winner, Loyd Phillips, had a son that collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest during a high school football game.

They performed CPR, used a defibrillator, and gave him an intracardiac injection while he was lying on the field. One paramedic did chest compressions so long and so hard that he pulled a hernia in himself.

At about the 8:50 mark they are preparing the syringe for the intracardiac injection. They were continuing to do chest compressions as he was carried off the field.

YouTube: High school player in cardiac arrest.

Mackenzie Phillips' heart was stopped for over 25 minutes after he got to the hospital. He went on to follow in his father's footsteps and play for Arkansas.

Sounds like he was a marginal player to begin with. He’s a second year pro who was a sixth round pick and (it seems) was only starting because another player had a season-ending injury earlier in the year. By the time he recovers to the point that putting pads back on would even be discussed, he probably will have regressed too much to make an NFL roster. And that’s not taking into consideration that probably every NFL team will be too spooked by this episode to suit him up anyway.

My prediction is he never plays another snap and the NFL gives him a big check.

Just curious but why would the NFL give him a check? The NFL didn’t cause his issues.

If he recovers fully and it’s determined it was a fluke, maybe. I know with heatstroke and maybe even heat exhaustion, once you have 1 you are much more likely to have another. I have no idea if that applies to this, but if it does there is no way he plays again.

One of the networks will offer him a job if he wants it and shows any aptitude. Otherwise, he could make a career of running his charity.

Just looked it up, his degree is in communication so I'd bet he tries the broadcasting route.
