Protesting doesn't necessarily mean you hate your country. It means you disagree with some things that are happening in it.

Not rooting against, there just isn't anything likable about this squad.

Alex Morgan’s arse is pretty likable.

The 2015 team was awesome. Stomped Germany in the semis and boatraced Japan in the final. Had a WW2 feel to it.

I agree that was a blast and Rapinoe was my fav player back then. Hate her guts now.

What's weird is the US could get bounced and boat-raced in the group stage and still be ranked #1 in the world by FIFA.

Only two countries have ever been ranked #1 by FIFA since 2003. Germany and the US.

FIFA Women's World Rankings are based on every international match a team ever played, dating back to 1971.

So the US has a perpetual 50 year head start..I guess, thanks to Title IX. And yet Rapinoe and Co. are so oppressed by our American system.

...not that weird when the reason you root against them is because they took a position against your country.

You’re missing a great opportunity to explain to your children what these players are doing wrong and why they’re so hated.

That's the thing. My daughter doesn't know they are "hated." She doesn't know Rapinoe is a flaming lib.
She doesn't know about the equal pay thing.
She just enjoys watching them ball out at soccer, and I'm going to keep it that way as long as I can.

The time will come when that conversation will be had, but it isn't here now.

Probably because they aren't hated, outside of the group that calls in bomb threats to Target.

There are soccer players from Canada, Sweden and England that come over to the US to study at various small colleges along the east coast. But the real reason is to train via "America way" for soccer.

Same thing for a lot of Olympic sports. So many of the non-USA athletes study and train in the US. Of course some of them are also American but have citizenship with other countries as well and make their teams

They don’t play for country.
I feel like I’m rooting for our country by hoping they crash and burn.

Exactly why I put it in quotes

I believe some people will find anything to be miserable about rather than just enjoy themselves.
