How does the MSB feel about this?

In today's version of the NFL? Not that big of an accomplishment. When Dan Marino did it in 1984 that WAS an accomplishment because of what the defense was allowed to get away with back then. With rules that favor the offense in this day and age, I'm afraid that 5,000 yard seasons will soon become routine.

Total yards throwing is wayyyy overrated by people. That stat does not mean a whole lot. It is more of an indication that you were in a lot of close games than anything else. Case in point, Manning's best team was the 2005 Colts, who won the first 13 games by at least 7 points. That was also the only year outside of his rookie year when he had less than 4,000 yards passing. He just did not need to pass for 300 yards every game to win.

What is far more indicative of success of "elitism" for a QB is touchdowns thrown, completion percentage, touchdown to interception ratio, and passer rating. I also have developed a begrudging respect for ESPN's clutch-weighted QB Rating. Romo does not fair all that great in these metrics outside of completion percentage. TD to INT rating below 2 is not elite, and Romo currently stands at 1.625.

It's impressive, but that number has lost its luster due to changes in rules and overall offensive philosophy.

Before 2008 it had only been done once. The last 5 years it has happened 4 times.

Starting QB for seven years.

Has as many postseason victories as TJ Yates.

Postseason victories is also a totally meaningless stat for any single player since the total impact of a single player is not great enough to accredit an entire loss or victory to that one player. Eli Manning has the record for road playoff victories. Is that a comment on Eli or his team? Of course, everyone points to Trent Dilfer's super bowl ring and Dan Marino's lack of one. Football is not tennis. Win-Loss record out of context is meaningless.

Brady won his first 10 playoff games but since then has a record of 7-6 in the playoffs, including a couple of one and dones. Did he regress? Obviously not. He improved tremendously and was far better as a QB when he lost super bowls than when he won. What changed? He had a top 5 defense every time he won and did not when he lost. TEAM sport.

So tired of hearing that super bowl rings indicate any damn thing about a single player.

Romo is a really good QB, but he isn't winning shite. His window has closed with the emergence of RG3.

Super Bowl rings matter to players who don't play Fantasy Football. A QB's greatness, for better or for worse, is measured by his success in the playoffs. Yeah...guys like Dan Marino failed to win a Super Bowl but are still regarded as elite players. However...when you get into the topic of "Best QB of All-Time", you don't hear names like Marino mentioned much because they never hoisted the Lombardi Trophy over their heads.

Laugh all you want. Dan Marino may be a Top 5 All-Time QB but I know of very few who would rank him #1.

Did you read what I wrote at all? I feel like you did not. There is just way too much data to say you can validate an individual player's greatness by the number of super bowls he wins. People are lazy and stupid, so they want easy answers. It is easy to say, "He won a super bowl? He must be great." and to ignore the fact that he had a top 5 defense and/or one of the greatest coaches of all time or the opposing team had some major injury suffered in the championship game or all manner of nuance that the average person is entirely too lazy and stupid to comprehend. That is why I can make money in the stock market. I am willing to dig further to find out what is really going on.

I should know better than to present facts and reason to Tiger Droppings. You don't want facts. You want a narrative and emotional-based decisions. Copy.

Heck...NFL.com ranks Marino as the ninth greatest QB behind Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Peyton Manning, Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, and John Elway. The common denominator of the players before him? They all have NFL Championship/Super Bowl rings.
