not ace stuff
Basically the best weak contact pitcher in baseball...no slouch with strikeouts and throws well over 200 innings. I guess Greg Maddux didn't have ace stuff either.

Tells me all I need to know about your baseball knowledge. They have the damned Cy Young winner on their staff.
Lester Earl + Astros = You wouldn't understand.
Cy Young award is overrated and/or Keuchel got lucky.
Also, Oakland A's >>>> Astros
Don't waste your breathe.

Doesn't matter, mets winning it all. They have 5 aces

I would say the NL has a chance to have several teams with elite records. I'm not so sure that those teams are any better than their AL counterparts. They just get a lot of games against teams that figure to lose 90+ games

Kansas City may still be too tough and Toronto looks solid as well.
They should win the division, though--the Rangers are aging and have too many holes to patch.

Astros allowed the fewest runs in the AL last year...

Can they finally make it to the World Series with all these high draft picks and last year finally breaking through to make the playoffs for the first time in several seasons?
I know this is a forward thinking thread, but damn I can't stop wondering WHAT IF that Will Harris inning didn't happen in Game 4.......
Oh well, here's to 2016. I'm really happy that Rasmus decided to come back, that dude can ball in the postseason. And pitching just needs to do enough, the bats will get them some runs

I am cautiously optimistic about this season. Need to have a healthy lineup and top of the rotation. I know Springer missed some time last year, and Lowrie missed a big chunk, but the injury bug didn't really affect missed a big chunk, but the injury bug didn't really affect the Astros. If the core group stays healthy and we get comparable production out of Keuchel and McHugh I think the Stros will contend for the pennant.
One thing is certain, the air conditioning bill at MMP will increase this year, since Chris Carter won't be around to keep the air circulating.

I expect a bit of "sophomore slump" in that they aren't playing with house money any more and there is real expectations now. Another year of being competitive and fingering out.

Really? Astros just added Fister to go along with Keuchel, McHugh, McCullers. Plus they have added a closer than can hit 100mph.

its not based on luck, but lets not act like every Cy Young award winner sees continued success. Just in the last 10 years, RA Dickey, Tim Lincecum, Jake Peavy & Brandon Webb have all won Cy youngs.
shite, just from 2014 to 2015, Corey Kluber's ERA jumped a whole point.
Not saying he is a bad pitcher by any means. Very good #2. But he isnt an ace.

I have no freaking clue what happens in the AL West this year. Personally, I think both Texas and Houston regress some, but it also wouldn't surprise me if they added a few wins.
I feel dumb saying I think Texas regresses with Yu coming back along with a healthy Martin Perez, but for some reason I just don't think the offense is going to be near as effective unless we get some big help from either Lewis Brinson or Nomar Mazara.
I think when it comes down to it, it's going to be a lot like last year between Houston and Texas again and it will come down to the wire.

See, and I really like the Rangers offense. Choo didnt hit at all the 1st half. Same with Odor. If Correa is the best young hitter in the division, Odor is 1B. Moreland was playing hurt the 2nd half, he had a breakout year all together. Deshields got his feet wet and should be a tremendous weapon for them.
Then they throw the 2 Aces at you, Hamels and Yu.
Astros are right there though. Top to bottom have the best staff & pen in the division. I think AJ Reed could be an equalizer, would like to see him up earlier than later.. Im curious to see if Correa is as good as he looked over 162 games once they develop a scouting report on him.
Angels are still solid top to bottom. Trout factor as well. Added Andrelton at SS.
Mariners could be the post hype sleeper team that people thought they'd be last year. Solid middle of the order, deep staff.
AL west will be tough for sure

This is where you lose credibility far too often. You post some pretty good thoughts... but you contradict yourself constantly with your analysis.
A middle of the pack Rule-5 player should be a tremendous weapon for the Rangers.
The AL Rookie of the Year may struggle once "they develope a scouting report on him.".

Yet, you make zero mention to what you think a full year of a reported healthy Carlos Gomez does to the Astros lineup.
You just can't help yourself but be unbiased... but you try your best to come across as just an "insigtful fan of baseball".
And no, I'm not mad. Not even flustered. I actually welcome your opinion on occasion. I'm just calling you out for what you are so that hopefully you won't shite all over the DAT threads again this year, you are insightful at times, but you are a troll at heart.

1. stop being a bitch. I gave the Astros plenty due.
2. Correa is going to be asked to be the best hitter in his lineup. Should he fall off, it will be a much bigger deal than Deshields. Both have 2 different approaches, Deshields is more of a contact speed guy, he is less likely to regress. He should fit into his role just fine.
