Will AI ever replace umpires/refs?

I dont think it's a matter of capability. Today's AI tech could probably call games close to 100% accurate, especially multiple camera angles all working together.
It's more of a matter if it would turn off fans to the sport. Even though I'd like an accurately called game, knowing AI is calling it is a turn off for me. I dont even care for the digital strike zone in baseball.

Will AI ever wipe my arse

Who knows but the new ABS challenge system in MLB has been phenomenal so far and adds a lot to the game.

It's shown for years in Tennis it can be trusted. Calling balls and strikes is an absolute no brainer. Would still need guys on the field for calls and communication but that's fine.

I get what you’re saying but how can anybody be against something that makes the game more fair. You’d be replacing human subjectivity with objectivity. It’s hard enough to hit a 100 mph fastball as it is.

Cameras and AI will be way more accurate and consistent in the long run. Make their training data and algorithms fully open source.
There will still be extremely close calls and people convinced the AI was programmed against their team but whatever.

Why not, MLB fans would love that type of trash.

So would we fans of SEC baseball, who has consistently shitty behind the plate assholes.

I would program the AI to allow a certain amount of holding except for the blatant egregious kind.
WR’s and DB’s are allowed a certain amount of hand fighting but of course you can’t hit the player before the ball is there.
The trenches can have a little grabbing but you can’t yank or tackle someone who beats you.
The game would be streamlined. The input data can be adjusted each season to improve game flow.

Exactly, just as corrupt as the Umps

Ai already calls balls and strikes.

Why you think teams have all those analysts nowadays?
Nerds have ruined sports.

They’ve already been replaced

Neither do you. So, it's 1 vote Yay, 1 vote Nay..?..
How will this ever be resolved??

And you don’t understand the difference between someone making a claim and someone not making that claim? I guess that checks out

The gulf between a few of y’all’s perception of AI and the reality of it is truly insane
