Because most coaches are miserable narcissistic assholes who don't know how to let go?

when you feel like it. If he feels like hes not ready to go and has something to give the sport then he should keep going.

Believe it or not most coaches enjoy coaching. Why not get paid 8M/yr for something you enjoy doing?

Because he doesn't want to? Do you need any other reason?

Yeah Arkansas isn't a blue blood like Kentucky but it's not like he's going to some podunk lower school, Arky has a rich enough basketball history with a title to its name. They have booster resources resources to be highly competitive in a major conference, and an administration and fanbase that cares a lot about hoops. It's not that big of a downgrade, he's going to be well compensated. I think a change of scenery might do him so good. He's been at Kentucky 15 years now.

Most coaches have messed up priorities. They’re not a terribly well adjusted group of people as a whole.

His ego won't let him retire without looking like a winner, which he currently is not.

Same with Bones Pitino

Maybe he doesn't have any other hobbies or interests to pursue in retirement that would give him the same level of enjoyment he gets from coaching

No doubt. Not saying they should just concede football--they do have money to compete--but if they focused that money and those resources more on basketball and baseball, they could compete for championships in those sports every year. The SEC doesn't have great basketball history outside of Kentucky (and Kentucky's recent history isn't super sexy). Depending on who Kentucky hires, it wouldn't surprise me if Cal and Arkansas' basketball fan base are both rejuvenated and they're the best program in the SEC in the next couple of years. Dude's taken UMASS, Memphis, and Kentucky to the Final Four and was an NBA coach for 4-5 years. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins an NC in Fayetteville before he hangs em up. I may actually be more surprised if he doesn't.

Do you know how easy it is going to be to recruit to Arkansas with a $6M annual NIL budget?

There you go.

Bear Bryant
JoePa
Bobby Bowden

And it took the portal and NIL to make Saban walk away.

There's fear of retirement as death...and that if they just stay on a College campus and be around youth, they'll live forever.

Do you know what’s better than $45 million?
Nearly doubling that amount by signing this Arkansas contract. That’s what.
