Below Average arm,
Nah, I'd say average at worst.

he's probably about 6'1
I've stood next to him a few times, and he appears to be at least 6'2.

plays in an offense that exaggerates his stats
Maybe his accuracy is what enables them to run said offense.

Neither did Drew Brees...
And he sucked for years. Now look at Alex Smith, maybe just about coming around (if you listen to other people, I think he'll always suck because he's inaccurate), but he was woeful for so long because he needed time to adjust to being under centre, and he still can't do it well.

There is no good reason Jamarcus Russell shouldn't be good right now, but he sucks. There is no good reason that Doug Flutie should have ever been good in the NFL, but he was.
No matter how smart we are, and no matter what Mel Kiper says, it's impossible to predict this volatile position. Therefore, it's a safe bet to pick any quarterback and say "he won't be good in the NFL." There's a 95% chance that you're right.

That's what they've said about every Texas Tech QB ever.

Ok. He has an average arm.

his arm is actually pretty strong, stronger than Brees at least

Go back to 2001 and check out the scouting reports on Drew Brees...

Define "sucked" and "for years"...
He was a Pro-Bowler in his third year of starting.

the frick does this have to do with anything?
how many big12 QBs have done shite the past 10 years?

spread offense QBs have distinct disadvantages when going to the pros

and there is 1 drew brees in the NFL doing something and prolly 100 that aren't

that really doesn't matter, either.

I don't know why people are comparing him to Brees, actually.
Colt has a stronger arm, is bigger, and is obviously a better runner.
I just don't see him as just a "system" QB that can only run a spread offense.
But I guess we'll see.

that's not the argument, however.
The argument is this:
You can not say whether or not a player will or will not be successful in the NFL based on superficial "insight". It's really based on opportunity and situation more than anything else.
Posted on 12/22/09 at 12:53 pm to wilceaux
All Colt McCoy will have to do is find an NFL system consisting primarily of routes under 5 yards and he will have tremendous success.
Posted on 12/22/09 at 12:56 pm to someoldhussy
so the big 12 and the sec both suck at producing starting NFL qb's. is there a point to make here?

Because the WORST defenses in the NFL put more pressure than Nebraska did and he looked like a scared puppy in that game. IF he has success in the NFL it will be several years down the line and very short lived. He is too predictable.

fact is no one can tell with McCoy,,Hes football smart and very coachable. Has a better than average arm and can run a little.
Good chance a good team takes him as a back up ( ex: patriots) and with a few years learning the NFL game could be a solid NFL QB
right now bst thing that could happen for him is to go to a tea with a solid established starting QB and a coach known for buiding QB's

McCoy seems to play a lot like Jeff Garcia.
agreed it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the 49ers draft him. I think he could be like garcia was earlier in his career
