I grew up in Alabama. There aren't any professional teams. I am a Braves, Saints, and Pels fan because those are my "hometown" teams.

Not only are they more talented, but the games are more exciting. MLS games get bogged down with more physical play, heat, and some shitty players. The EPL, La Liga, and Bundesliga are just all around better products. Also, the nearest MLS team to me is about a 10 hour car ride away. So it's not like I even have a local team to cheer for. I can fly to England faster than I can drive to the nearest MLS stadium.

Exactly. Soccer looks great and all and the US games are fun to watch. I just have no one to root for, same reason I couldn't care less about MLB.

And FYI, I'm one of the few Soccer Board regulars who doesn't follow EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, or Series A - I follow MLS and the USMNT.

No they're not. They're teams you chose, maybe for many reasons, one of which being proximity. But they're not your hometown teams.

I wish the OP were written differently but it is beyond me why the more faithful soccer fans aren't exasperated with the flopping - it is a beautiful game but the ridiculousness of flopping theatrics significantly affecting outcomes is a big problem for the legitimacy of a sport.
If they really wanted to get rid of it they could get rid of it. They could even do something as draconian as hand out retroactive red cards, reverse outcomes or suspend players guilty of flopping for the next five games. It is tempting to say there would be almost no more problem with any of those approaches.

It's not nitpicking. Those aren't your hometowns. Hell, they're not even the same town. I mean, maybe if you grew up in a trailer in rural Alabama to you those were the "big city" maybe then, maybe I get it. I live in Jacksonville and could give two fricks about Orlando, Tampa, or Miami. They aren't my town and I don't care about their teams.
