re: Why is the Texas/Alabama issue so hard to understand?

This is why I hate BAMA. I respect the hell out of what Saban has done but because of message board posters and life long BAMA fans since 2014 that are petulant children and think they’re owed everything just because they’re Alabama
To be fair, LSU fans are fricking horrible on TD too

Just to play devil’s advocate, that was week one and both teams are very different now
Who cares when it was. Texas won. Period.
It doesn’t matter who we THINK is better today. And for the record, I think Bama would smoke them if they played again. But that’s it. I think it. I don’t KNOW it.
All we do KNOW is that week 2 Texas went into Bama and left with a double digit win.
If the finish with the same record and are both conference champs, the discussion should begin and end with Texas’ win in Tuscaloosa.
Otherwise you are saying to everyone that actual on field results don’t matter and the committee should just pick 4 teams and the beginning of the season and forget the rest of it.

You really think FSU could lose to LOUISVILLE?
Did I say that? I just said IF they do and Texas wins Texas and the SECCG winner are in.

Well it's more likely than either Michigan or Texas losing

FSU is -2, Texas -15 and Michigan-22
It’s FAR more likely FSU loses than the other 2

Ok I’ll remember this.. whatever happens on the field today happens… but knowing you, all I will see is excuses if things don’t go the way you want today.

LSU was a LOCK for the playoffs if they had beaten Bama and won out because an SEC champ would never get left out. There were only a million threads on this. Now...
The Heisman threads have been terrible too.

A two loss lsu would have had a chance against Oregon in the rankings. For whatever reason the committee and computers like lsu a lot more than bama.

Isn’t that exactly what we are seeing from Bama fans and Bama-stans?
Bama is playing better now, if they played Texas today blah blah blah.
If Texas Bama and FSU all win, Texas and FSU should go. If FSU loses and the other 2 win then Texas and Bama will go

I don’t think LSU would have made it with 2 loses and did argue that. My dream scenario after Ole Miss was winning out and knocking the SEC out

Agreed. Bama could’ve scheduled a cupcake like the big 10 teams and easily been in with a win. But I’m glad they didn’t do that

Michigan OOC schedule of East Carolina,
uNLv and Bowling Green was laughable. I guess you can give them a little credit for playing a 9th conference game.
Ohio State deserves credit for playing Notre Dame out of conference though.
In general, the Big 10 suffers from
being the Big 2 1-2.
But crying over Alabama losing because they scheduled a team with a pulse is emblematic of the entitled attitude that rubs so many people the wrong way. Alabama has benefited far more times than not from playing a weak OOC and even cross division schedule.

2017 Bama’s East opponents Tennessee and Vanderbilt were 1-15 in SEC games, (that’s 0-14 excluding their game against each other) they did not with the West so didn’t have to play in the SECCG but the SEC is so hard

Alabama beating Georgia today would be outstanding. It would knock Georgia out and end the overrated Georgia “dynasty” and Alabama would also get left out pending favorites winning.

Not sure if that eyeroll was directed toward me…because otherwise it sounds like we’re saying the same thing.
How many times has Alabama played UGA and Florida in the regular season in the last 15 years?
I certainly agree that Alabama did not deserve to be in the playoffs in 2017.
Unless FSU or Michigan lose tonight, they don’t deserve to go this year either.

Things could not be more simple. To quote Greg Sankey, some of these things are not like the others.
FSU, Michigan and Washington are undefeated, Power 5 conference champions. THEY HAVE PERFECT RESUMES. They are in the playoffs over every other team.
Then there are two 12-1 Power 5 conference champions. Alabama and Texas. They are clearly below the other three teams, and clearly above two 1-loss non-champions UGA and Ohio State. Their resumes have a flaw.
If the idea of the playoff is determining the champion “on the field”, then what happens on the field has to be primary to other data points. Texas went into Tuscaloosa and convincingly beat Alabama by two-scores. That shuts down any further argument.
If the committee goes against every single precedent it has established over ten years, then shame on them. I understand that Alabama fans are gonna have Crimson colored glasses for their own team, but you know your argument is flawed. You’ve gotten the benefit of the doubt when your team wasn’t deserving in 2011 and 2017. This time you shouldn’t. I appreciate several of the Alabama fans who have already showed the class in this thread to admit that.
I’m an SEC homer, and yes we’ve dominated college football, but this year we’re 7-9 vs P5 conferences. Hardly our dominant selves.

FWIW, I started a thread regarding 2-loss LSU winning out and possibly making the playoffs. At no point did I have LSU in over an undefeated P5 conference champion.
I don’t recall if I did, but I would have argued that a 2-loss LSU potentially deserved to be in over a 1-loss b12 champ Texas, but not over a potential 1-loss ACC champ FSU who had beat LSU head to head.
