I liked the one year Miami was in the Sun Bowl, and it snowed like crazy.

Yes, this was the first year for the Holiday on FS1. I liked it when all the major networks had bowl games. ABC had the Gator and Sugar,,NBC had the Fiesta,Rose, and Orange. CBS had the Cotton, Sun, and Peach then ESPN came in to ruin it all. ESPN has every bowl but the Sun(CBS), Arizona and Cure(CBSSN), and Foster Farms(Fox) and Holiday(FS1).

I love how the Liberty Bowl doesn’t change their end zones

But the Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl logos of the 80’s GOAT

The best was when Mizlou had the bowl games and you had no idea if you were getting to see the game.

Also TV guide would put in a roster for the one huge bowl game so you’d look at it. They also did it for MNF

Yeah I liked the Mizlou/Raycom games. One of our local affliates(usually CBS) would pick the games up here in MS. The Independence, Liberty, Bluebonnet, Holiday, Freedom etc. were all Mizlou/Raycom. I remember TBS having the old All-American Bowl ffrom Birmingham, then they eventually had the Copper and then later the Gator Bowl after it left ABC and before it went to NBC.

ESPN puts out a good product as far as I’m concerned. The coverage, play-by-play and analysis is generally good even for the low level bowl games.

Plus, you can stream them all and even go back and watch them on WatcESPN. Not happening on the major networks.

I know where all supposed to hate ESPN here, but I just don’t understand why we hate them on this particular issue.

Damn, you're going back 40 years or so for that one. I used to cut those out and collect them.

Why does CBS only pay for the rights to air one and only bowl, the Sun Bowl?

The Gator was always on NYE night on ABC. There were some good ones in the 80's. I remember Pitt with Hugh Green( from South Natchez High) and Rickey Jackson whipping USCe and Heisman winner George Rodgers arse. UNC vs Lou Holtz and Arky, FSU vs Jeff Hostetler-West Va. I remember Florida playing Iowa in 1983 and it was in the 20's. Okie State played in back to back games vs USCe and FSU(first time I remember watching Neon Deion Sanders play). I'd always watch these in between firework breaks on NYE. Good times.

I remember some of the games ending late. My parents wouldn’t let me stay up late to watch the end, so I’d sneak a radio in my room and turn the volume down. I had so many radios taken away by my parents then from staying up late listening to games.

It wasn’t NYE

The Gator Bowl was usually 28th 29th

I know the Arkansas Carolina Game was not NYE since I went to it in 81. We spent NYE back in Fayetteville

Some were some weren't. Many were the 30th. You're right on 81 because I remember watching the Bluebonnet Bowl between Michigan and UCLA between fireworks breaks on NYE.Anyway whatever the date they were at night on ABC and most were entertaining.

ETA: just looked it up. Most in the time period I was talking about,1980-85, were on the 30th. We shot fireworks most nights on the 29th, 30th, 31st so that makes sense. Three or four in the early 90's were the 31st and on TBS. All Bluebonnet Bowls in the 80's were on NYE.
