So much for enjoying sports for the escape of it all...

People can laugh at the notion all they want, but it’s going to slowly degrade the market demand for the product they are putting out and can eventually hurt the bottom line enough to kill entire leagues if they alienate enough people.

Everyone here loves sports as an escape. It’s why we are on this forum. But when escapism is stripped away, it just isn’t fun anymore for a lot of people.

Bc it gets a reaction. Whether u think Kapernick was right or wrong when he started kneeling, if everyone had ignored him for 3 months “kneeling” wouldn’t be the issue it is today.

Same reason Skip Bayless still shat on
Lebron even after the Cavs came back from a 3-1 deficit to a Stacked GS team. It gets a attention.

Yep. I'll watch LSU sports and that's it. NFL lost me a couple of years ago anyway. It was a pretty good feeling after a few weeks away from it that I realized how nice it was to have Sunday's free for doing...anything.

I wish more would try it. You don't NEED sports to take you away from anything.

Not to mention commercial real estate is going to crumble. Valuations should take a hair cut at the least. Consumption will fall as baby boomers retire and zoomers can't look up from their phones. I find it hard to believe there will be a large enough audience to continue BAU. The NFL probably has about 20 more years of prime viewership.

So if I dig back to 2018 in your post history how many NFL posts should I find?

I mean, look at any player who hasn't taken a stand. They get shite from all angles. Some players are actually intelligent and make good points, some are stupid but have been given a platform and have been told their opinions matter.

Sports journalists also think they're Deep Throat now too.

Players put themselves out there long before they were "pressured" to do it

You're just setting yourself up to be mad when you realize LSU players feel the same as NFL players

A small faction of them, sure. Then people started expecting everybody to have an opinion.

They’re basically the same as the NFL and NBA players

Everybody with a name and even then it’s still easy to ignore.

Drew could have easily sidestepped his problems with a better PR staff, and even today u can do with a no comment.

Sports and politics have been interwoven for some time

panem et circenses
Bread and circuses

Sports were designed as distractions by the ruling class (quite effective even to this day...)

I hope the NFL folds. I hope they die a rather quick, slow death. Watching their million dollar contracts slowly slip from their grasp. I would relish the fact of them knowing they are playing their last season because they wanted to support BLM and losers like Kap. I want them to see the division they inflicted with their SJW act only to see them do an about face when they realize their privilege lifestyle is gone.

See I don't think they'll fold. I think it's going to be a subtle shrink every season. The demographics will shift and they'll lose older people.. The ad buys that used to work will find less base, and they'll have to adjust the way they reach their users. Then more and more people will be watching more and more different shite. It's already happening in fact. Streaming. YouTube. Etc.

Then it will be time to negotiate TV contracts and the money will finally stop climbing. It'll level off. Viewers will be down marginally. Owners will make less. Teams will move.

Eventually people will fan out more and more and they will find other shite. Perhaps one of the other leagues will dial down the politics or worse yet, soccer finally blows up all over the US.

Logged in just to upvote Thine. I’m going to try and read more books and find other escapes besides ncaa football, nfl, and professional tennis.

As for the OP, black americans fall for this crap every four years and they get in line for massa dnc.

I don’t understand your point or the relevance of this reply. Sports and politics are separate entities and one requires escapism to be fun and the other almost requires a lack of escapism to even participate.

I’m not talking about Donald Trump and I’m not sure why you deflected to that because frankly I have no interest in that discussion.

Politics should be about policy, not feelings.

I couldn’t imagine being a grown man and basing my political thought on the tone someone else takes.

not at all. It was bc it’s was clear to anybody who had watched the season Even a little that the version of GSW he beat wasn’t even on the same planet as the team that won 70+ games.

I don’t understand how you equate an athlete talking about politics to the president talking about politics. Maybe if I ever get to a quarter of a million post on here and a little TDS, I’ll understand.

It’s just such a bizarre pivot. Politics isn’t about escapism. It’s actually the opposite of escapism, it’s an active involvement with the issues that we face as a society.

Sports is about escapism for a large majority of viewers.

I guess I’m going to need to be walked through why his response makes any sense with respect to my original comment.
