Or I guess more importantly, why is Memphis bending over backwards for this guy? Literally paying him $17 million to not play. And now Iggy is saying he wont play for anyone unless Memphis trades him to a team he likes

LINK

Seriously, Memphis should have told him straight up that he was getting fined everyday he doesnt show up which they're well within their rights to do. Rather than just pay this guy an exorbitant amount of money to eat cheetos on the couch.

And I dont understand it really. Memphis is currently on the playoffs, and Iggy already has 3 rings and a FMVP so I dont understand why he needs to ring chase so bad, it's not like Memphis is some scrub tanking team or anything.

Players control the league, you don't do what they want, they leave

This got explained the other day.

Memphis never wanted Iguodala, they wanted the first rounder they got with him. Iguodala is close to the end of his career and didn't want to go there.

Neither Memphis or Iguodala wanted him to be there. He's helping them avoid the salary floor and has an expiring deal, which is great for their long term cap space.

Right now, they're letting him sit because it keeps him more valuable in the trade market as healthy. Memphis is trying to get an asset for him, but they got what they wanted in a pick already.

Iggy looks selfish at this point because Memphis approached him and was willing to buy out his contract but not at the full 17 million. Iggy refused to negotiate the buyout and wanted to be bought out for 17 million just so he could go sign with the team he chose. This is Memphis saying F you we won't pay you $17 million to go play against us.

He expressed all this before he was traded to them and they still made the deal

I don't blame Memphis or AI...

I blame the league for letting things like this happen. More importantly now just letting these things happen, but being totally inconsistent on how they manage this (See Anthony Davis Situation last year).

Because Memphis is ok with it.

Why could the NBA force the Pelicans to play a healthy AD but not force Memphis to play Iggy?

Davis wanted to play, Iguodala doesn’t

Exactly. They knew he was guaranteed 17 mil, wanted 17 mil for a buyout and did it anyways for the first rounder.

They approached him with less, but it's unknown how much less and knew he'd said he wouldn't take that. When that fell through, they were fine letting him sit because he still frees up 17 mil in cap space for them this summer regardless of how it plays out.

I don't really get the frustration with Iggy either. He's not holding out or being a distraction. This is a mutual decision that neither him or Memphis benefits from him playing.

It's funny because he apparently made a ton of noise about wanting to be on a playoff team, and Memphis is probably going to make the playoffs.

Why is it selfish to want the entire fully guaranteed salary that you signed a contract to get

Exactly. People forget that this is still a job. I sure wouldn't be giving up millions of dollars when I can either get traded to a preferred destination or just sign there in the offseason

I don't understand that either. He's guaranteed 17 mil. Memphis knew he was guaranteed 17 mil when they signed him. It's not like this came as any surprise.
