re: Why exactly do so many fans hate Lebron James?

Dude, I don't can't stand Kobe Bryant. But, I respect the hell out of him as a ball player. I wouldn't say sucked or anything like that (well unless it was to troll Unknownknight lol). Kobe never got close to the scrutiny James does. No where near it.
I didn't like this either. But, it wasn't James' idea. He was 25 years old and his manager basically came to him said "we are doing this".
I never understood the hate for this one. Cleveland couldn't put the team around him to win a title. He is a grown man, and decided to go to Miami. Never understood why anyone had a problem with this.
Its today's NBA. Every star does this.
lol. just want to say, his basketball I.Q. is off the charts
Can't remember a Super star that was better at getting their teammates involved then Lebron James

The style and way that the sports media covers him
IMO it's not him that ppl dislike. It's the way that he is portrayed by the media, meaning the constant stuffing down fans throats that he invented basketball

Lebron wasn't behind The Decision. If you are upset with that, be upset with ESPN, not Lebron.
Please, you cannot be serious.
When KD signed his extension, nobody knew anything. The first breaking news was when he sent out a tweet, thanking the fans and organization.
Nobody put a damn gun to his head, so please stop with this stupid shite!

I haven't liked him since he was on the cover of sports illustrated in high school. I don't like all the self hype, I don't like all the media attention that is put on one player. I don't like how everyone is trying to crown him as the Goat, when he's not even halfway through his NBA career. I think he's a great basketball player, but he looks and acts fake. He just gets on my fricking nerves.

What? I'm not saying the dude is a genius or anything, but he seems like a pretty sharp guy for someone who probably stopped giving a frick about school around age 15 or 16.
I'd agree with this. Kobe is smarter for sure though

quote:Gatorade was one of his sponsors, his PR team obviously has to agree to it. I think the real answer is about 5-10 years ago the media went from making star players look like heroes, to villians. They realize humans lust for others to be shown in a negative light. Just think about today's media with Jordan and his adultery/gambling. It would have been ten times the story of Tiger
Wan't that a song from Gatorade for a commercial? I don't think that came from Jordan's PR camp.

quote:100% Lebron agreed to it. Never said he didnt. Just saying Jordan also agreed to have a song called "Be like Mike" This board would lose their minds if a "Be like Bron" song came out

And I would agree with some of this
He does come across as a "fake" in many ways. Again that could be the way the media covers him.

He's the best player on the planet. You either love him or hate him. I hated Jordan back in the day and used to pull for the teams playing him. Same thing going on here.

quote:Yes, but having the PR team approve a song Gatorade made for a commercial is much different than just a PR team coming out with a random song about a guy that says "be like mike."

quote:Partially true, but there were still villains back then and there are still heros now. 24/7 sports and internet age have media scrounging for new content which leads to more and more reaching for new stories. That has something to do with it for sure.
I think the real answer is about 5-10 years ago the media went from making star players look like heroes, to villians.

Just think about today's media with Jordan and his adultery/gambling.

Not an excuse. Nobody held a gun to his head. Like you said, he was 25.

I'm just pointing out talking points that go against Lebron. This move was an admission that he needed help. The other superstars Lebron is mentioned with didn't do it. It's easy to latch on to.

Should be beneath a guy you want us to consider the GOAT with more physical tools than anyone in the league.

Maybe dummy was the wrong word. Fake or phony is more accurate.

quote:I don't think it has to do with the media coverage much. Kobe for much of his career, and to extent still today, is the same way. They are self conscious and trying to portray a certain image they want people to have of them that isn't really authentic. Dwight Howard, who was one of my favorite players, did this a bunch as well.

Yeah, none of the greats ever looked disdainfully at their teammates.

Kobe threw every one of his teammates under the bus and Jordan punched one of his..
