Why don't college coaches place an emphasis on finding a good kicker?
Kicking in college is just so bad everywhere. It seems like a lot of these guys are walk-ons.

I just don't get why coaches don't take the time to recruit good kickers.

Harbaugh did. He slept over at the dudes house and he is blasting them from 50+ I give him credit

There's only like 20 of them. Most are from soccer and didn't kick in HS.

Kicking is more of a mental thing anything else imo

They do.

Shockingly, there are damned few of them, even for those that obsess over doing so-- they're still going to struggle to find one, more often than not.

It's impossible to tell if a guy has the mental fortitude to handle the pressure of kicking in major college football from practice kicking. Guys like Cade Foster and Adam Griffith were about as highly rated as you can be as high school kickers and just weren't any good.

Yeah that's not right at all. Most major college kickers didn't kick in high school? You're pulling that out of your ass.

many do, the kid who kicks for Missouri, was $$$ in highschool, from any distance. I believe he hit a 63 yarder in a HS game, with plenty of distance.

Won job, and misses xtra points, kicks ball out of bounds, etc.

Our best kicker came from the swim team, he walked on, and was money all 3ish years he kicked.

Some teams dont offer scholarships to kickers and have them walk on, then earn their scholarship later.

It's the one thing we do consistently and it's usually a nice comfort to know whats going to happen when our PK lines up.

Some misses this year by Legatron have been concerning though.

Because recruiting them is a total crap shoot as most of it comes down to mental not physical tools and that is pretty damn hard to gauge. Any top rated kicker coming out of HS has a strong and fairly accurate leg.

Arkansas got the #1 K recruit in the country in 2014 and he is absolutely fricking awful, missed 2 under 25 yarders against TCU.

For some reason (I don't know what it is) there's not very many of them and there's 130 D1 schools. Also like others have said it's 90% mental. Perfect example is Roberto Aguiyo. Dude was money in college and couldn't make a 30 yarder in the NFL.

kicker recruiting is a different ballgame....you just never know.

I have seen my school sign a top tier kicker...and the kid could never adjust to the college game...

Texas about to screw this game up
