Any college can go independent. ND just so happens to have enough support to be self sustaining. Only a handful of colleges could do so.

Plus a large fan base in Boston that wants to root for an Irish Catholic institution and doesn't realize there's one of those locally.

Lots NY/NJ Italians pull for Notre Dame too.

On August 25, 1991, NBC broke away from the CFA and signed a five-year broadcasting contract with the University of Notre Dame, worth $38 million. The deal surprised the college football world and left many of the other CFA members unhappy with Notre Dame.

They had a guarantee that all of there games would get a prime spot on Saturday so all the kids wanted to be on TV

Not only that, they didn’t have to share a bowl game payout

Yeah Notre Dames had the best sweetheart deal since the 90s...

There must be a reason. TV Networks aren't charities.

What was funny was watching the liberal media get mind fricked when Brian Kelly left for LSU

They hate Catholics and religion but were crying for ND

People hate to hear it on this board but Notre Dame draws, draws, draws...eyeballs.
Which is wild to me because here inside my little bubble, they’re irrelevant

I’ve never once had the urge to flip over to a ND game

They’re as boring as Boston College to me
