Good answer. It saves cheap hits and sticks to the head where people really get hurt.

Weird that Olympic hockey gets bigger ratings than any other hockey considering no fighting.
During USA vs Canada gold game inever heard one person say turn it off

The 6-8 ridiculously talented All-Star teams might have something to do with that.

And the fact that it was USA vs. Canada in Vancouver when Canada wanted to win at all costs.

The thought is that it allows players to take out revenge on players for taking cheap shots, etc. without having to retaliate in a dangerous manner.

It's a hockey thing, you wouldn't understand.
So help me out. Is there more to it or is it what you said the first time?

Its just hard for to ecplain non fans to completely in this day and age when other sports are banning hard hits and etc.
The code of fighting is glorious. There have been examples of it this past week. I think it was the penguins game where a player was knocked down during the fight and the other player stopped swinging then said 'good fight' lol

The fights between the Avalanche and Red Wings in the late 90s were great.

They were, but I think there were a few "rules" of fighting that were broken.

I think someone already mentioned, but you're on skates and wearing a gigantic amount of pads so it's very tough to get solid, clean shots with power.
Plus, it's a blue collar sport.

Why not? All sports should be like that in my opinion. People wanna see a show!
