This is such a lame defense. Remember this the next time you're up for a pay raise.

Do rookie long snappers and kickers complain about their pay compared to other positions?

If I ask for a pay raise and I am replaceable with no detriment of my employer my employer could easily laugh in my face and tell me to frick off.

Sure, I could whine about it but what realistically could I do?

If the RBs don't like the money they're currently making, they should use their degree and connections to get a job somewhere else.

Oh good god. Dude this is such a bad defense if you really think it's that easy for them to just leave and go do something else.

Putting this another way, RB is the position with the most post-career injury issues and a lot of these guys don't get the full pension because they don't last.

Serious question, whose fault is that?

Comparing longsnappers and kickers to running backs is hilarious.

Clearly you're not being serious, right?

What if their best shot to realize their NFL dream was at running back?

How about Punter, Kicker, and Deep Snapper?

I get that, which is why the running back rookie scale should be higher than other positions because, outside of a few outliers, that first contract for them will likely be their biggest and longest.

I don’t know man. That would open Pandora’s box IMO. What about centers and guards compared to tackles? What about middle linebackers compared to pass rushers.

I feel like there are definite skills for running backs to work on that can prolong their careers. For example guys who can pass block well and are always in position on their assignments will likely have careers into their early 30s as it’s very relevant to the current nfl.

Similarly guys who run good routes out of the backfield and catch well will also likely have longer careers.

But let’s be honest. There are likely MANY NFL caliber athletes that can run for 4-5 ypc out of the backfield and occasionally break a longer one when they’re young and fresh if they focus solely on that. There aren’t nearly as many who can run fantastic routes or cover down the field.

But artificially inflating a pay scale for a position that simply isn’t as sought after isn’t really the answer to me. We don’t need equality of outcome for differently valued skills.

The question you should ask is why do you think it’s appropriate to bitch about other people bitch about.

The RB think they are not treated or paid fairly within the system on the NFL relative to other players and based on the overall revenues and profitability of the NFL. The sports media cover it because it’s a story.

You can choose to agree/disagree or disregard the story

Why? Leading point getters most years are kickers. I am one hundred percent willing to say a kicker is more valuable than a third running back.

There you go, resort to calling me a troll bc your position on this is about as dumb as it gets.

Yes, that exactly what you do when you're up for a pay raise. Look how replaceable you are and negotiate accordingly.

You don't complain to the world and hope it pressures your company into paying you more.

Why, exactly is it not being serious?

There are limited spots for both of those positions. Both have lines of others waiting to take the spots of those positions at the slightest frick up.

They aren’t paid highly because while they have value, it’s not value over the next possible replacement so their market is set.

This is what’s happening to RBs. I understand their complaint, but their complaint is only relative to what others earned before them which isn’t relative now.

I'm sure teams will not take this into account and surely will continue drafting them where they previously would have been drafted.

And in the 60-70’s players took an offseason job to make ends meet. Players in team sports today are pampered and a lot of them are way overpaid. The 12th guy on the bench off any nba team makes like $2 million a year.

Exactly, teams will simply wait to draft RB's.

This is the free market at work. And you know what will happen if the pool of talented RB's starts to dwindle in the future because nobody wants to play the position? Their value will go back up and they will be compensated accordingly.

Position values evolve over time.

This is a good way of saying it.
