Why do people accuse Troy Aikman of being gay?

I've heard people say this for years especially on this site. I know most cowboy players and cowboy fans are homosexuals but he doesn't come across as effeminate or anything to me. Is there any basis for these rumors?

Because Skip Bayless wrote about the rumor (supposedly coming from people in the Barry Switzer camp) in 1996 and people latched onto it for derogatory reasons.

It also got perpetuated because troy purposely never addressed it because he was advised to do so because it was such a ridiculous accusation. Troy never felt like it needed to be addressed.
