Does a coach in at other sport do this?
My only thought is that at one time many players were coaches also. But I have to believe that his was the case in other sports too and yet the coaches do not wear uniforms today.

Well, the first and third base coaches are on the field for their team's half of the inning. And managers come out for pitching changes.
In other sports, coaches aren't supposed to come into the playing area.

Like a lot of things in baseball, tradition.

Why do football coaches get to coach in sweatpants while basketball coaches dress in suits?
It's just the way it is

Back in the day, they used to have player/managers... So eventually when they switched to full time coaches, they just left the uniform as is

At least they don't look like a homeless drunk like Belichick.

An "I don't know" would have saved you some keystrokes.

It's tradition because back in the day there were player/coaches.

Connie Mack disagrees.

A baseball uniform is just a shirt and pants. It's not like a football coach in pads or a basketball coach in shorts.

(That's not a bad point)
