Or the Suns or Kings draft him outright.

It was a huge mistake in the moment, not in hindsight.

The kings are the biggest what the frick. Choosing bagley there was never gonna turn out well. At least ayton and trae were/are defensible picks and both look like they will make fine careers for themselves

But the kings were just full on classic kangz

I think this years first round is going to be littered with Euros. Some front offices have been shy on them but Luka has shown you can’t take the chance to miss on a franchise changer

At least Ayton is really good. The Suns were 20-18 in games that Ayton played in and 14-21 without him and they went on that huge run in the bubble after Ayton came back. That wasn't a bad pick. Picking Bagley over Doncic though was completely inexcusable.

He is but there's no excusing that decision.

Those of us who wanted Luka over Ayton will always be sick about the pick. But Ayton was always going to be a 20/12 guy, and now he's trending toward a solid rim protector. He's going to be an All-Star for a lot of years which is nice. But he's not going to be an MVP candidate every year. He also needs to stop doing things like getting suspended, missing his COVID test, etc. Those things are not how you win your teammates over.

The potential to fix Trae was much more appetizing for the arena's barbershop.

Or the grizzlies draft Trae when everyone knew the hawks wanted to trade Luca for him...

Trae was a culture pick

It's like Hakeem over MJ you can't blame anyone for taking size or a mismatch

You know what creates culture...an all time great player.

It's nothing like that. At the time of the pick, 30 out of 30 GMs would have taken Hakeem because he was believed to be the better NBA prospect by virtually everyone.

On the flip side, the vast majority of folks had Luka as the top prospect. Totally different scenarios.

So many NBA scouts and front offices start tracking prospects at a young age. They view them from an AAU lense.

Even someone like Luka, playing at a high level in a good league in Europe, didn’t fit the template of what most NBA front offices look for in a 17,18, 19 year old.

Trae Young being a monster in college had way more to do with it than AAU.

the worst part about luka being this good is the trae young slander. dude is a legitimate all star and we have no idea what his ceiling even is yet, but people still feel the need to trash him.

not to mention that reddish started putting it together late in the year, and might be a player as well. why do we need to decide on things every 5 seconds, rather than just let it play out?
