Why did the Chiefs run the clock down at end of OT?

Granted they scored. But it was 3 seconds on the clock when they did. It’s not like the 49ers get the ball back. They still had timeouts. They cut it very close.

The overtime rules are very confusing bc they keep changing but I think the chiefs would’ve still had an opportunity to finish the drive in a second OT

They would have just went to 2nd OT because they each team gets a full possession. Basically the clock didn’t matter at all.

Yeah, I think they just would have changed end of the field, but it was still would have been 2nd or 3rd and goal with a TD winning and a FG turning it to sudden death. Romo and Nance's inability to explain the rules in time made it very confusing and a very anti-climactic ending.

It's basically just the end of the quarter.

There's really no reason to have the time in the postseason outside of just stat keeping

Didn't you listen to Tony Romo? He was explaining it will go to 2nd OT.

It should have said “OT 1st Quarter” on the screen instead of just “OT.”

They actually explained the OT timing rules very thoroughly at least twice.

Silly question, but if it was tied after the second quarter, would there be a "halftime". Like a break with a new kickoff?

I am shocked at how few people were aware of NFL OT rules on a sports message board.

Somehow my expectations of this place were too damn high yet again.

Even if you didn’t know, you should’ve been able to figure out the clock didn’t matter when the Chiefs didn’t give a shite about it.

They need to simplify NFL OT to something like:

10 minute additional quarters until one team wins

1 additional OT quarter and then two point plays until a victor.
