Who’s the greatest NY Islander of all time? (Need help)

My father in law is an islander fan and I know jack squat about hockey. He loves memorabilia and things like that and I’d like to get him something he thought was cool. I googled it but that’s usually a bunch of jerk offs who know nothing.
He’s pushing 70. I could not have special ordered a better father in law. The guy is amazing. If I never met my wife I would hang out with this guy
Any actual information from hockey guys and fans would be helpful.

You can argue their order but the top three Islanders of all time are Mike Bossy (Right Wing), Bryan Trottier (Center), and Denis Potvin (Defense). Billy Smith (Goalie) is number four. They were all cornerstones of the 1980 through 1983 Stanley Cup winning teams.

Clark Gillies up very high on the list if you talked to any long time isles fan.

IF I had to narrow it down to just one guy?
Either Bryan Trottier or Dennis Potvin (mentioned already as having lead the Islander Dynasty).

Been an Islander Fan from way back.
In '75 an upstart, underdog NY Islander team (a turrible team and dead last in the Eastern Division in '74) first shocked a good Penguin team in first round of those playoffs...
...THEN in the Semi-Finals they were down 0-3 to defending Stanley Cup Champ Broad Street Bullies Flyer, who were just toying with them -- UNTIL the Islanders stormed back to tie the series at 3-3 before bowing out. As a huge Isles Fan, your FIL will remember that! (Rookie Winger and Enforcer Clark Gilles was THE difference-maker.)
The Islanders were extremely competitive from 1975 onward to their Dynasty Years thru the Mid 80s. What a machine they were.

The New York Post has the best sports section of any American daily newspaper in my opinion.

You're right -- Can't be argued.
I would add that Clark Gilles was THE difference-maker. Best Enforcer in the league and a perennial 20+ goal scorer himself; He was also originally on what was that potent Bossy-Trottier-Gilles line. I recall how Gilles' very presence enabled Mike Bossy to operate on the ice without hassles so he could rifle his 50 goals per season virtually unimpeded.

Years from now fans will remember our two current goalies as superstars holding the team together.

Better believe it.
All Clark Gilles had to do to quell troublemakers trying to start something was circle around the "trouble" watchfully -- and voila -- everything magically calmed down.
NO Islander Fan (or Bruin Fan) will ever forget his playoff brawls with Terry O'Reilly for Enforcer Supremacy.
Last note -- it's my recollection that it was Clark Gilles who started the whole "Playoff Beard" tradition)

I followed the Islanders a bit back in the 80's. I'd have to say Mike Bossy. He played 8 less seasons than Trottier and only has 299 less goals. If Bossy didn't have the injuries he had, he would probably be behind Gretzky in points.

For the islanders? Idk

Mike Bossy or Clark Gillies. Either one, but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose I'd choose Gillies.
Hear ya. Not "wrong" either by some measures. His mere force of presence, skills and intimidation factor reinforced the whole team's confidence.
I loved Gilles.
