To be fair, Kobe wasn't a top 5 player during the 3 peat either.

Wat?

Eh. All NBA 1st team and 2nd team in the 2nd and 3rd year of the 3 peat.

But I think they have #3 on lock. The reigning back to back MVP...and he's not even the best player on his team. That's pretty crazy.

Ehh, few top duos have to shoulder less of the load than KD and Steph. They're difficult to rank due to their surrounding cast. 7 Warriors who played meaningful playoff minutes have a PER over 16.2

Kobe and Shaq never had any, and Michael and Pippen usually only had 1 (Horace Grant, then Kukoc)

They certainly have the best 3rd/4th players ever, but they're still shouldering the load just here in these Finals.

From 1999-2002:

Never in the Top 5 in PER, Win Shares, WS/48, Offensive Win Shares, VORP, BPM,

12th in MVP voting in 99-00, 9th in 00-01, and 5th in 01-02.

I won't make an argument about Kobe's reign in the Top 5 from 2002-2013ish, but he wasn't there yet during the 3-peat.

It's not really an insult to Kobe that he was just on the fringe at that time. People knew he was coming, but he wasn't quite there yet IMO.

Think of it this way:

Kobe and Shaq went to 4 finals together and won 3
Kobe went to 3 without Shaq and won 2
Shaq went to 2 without Kobe and won 1

That's a total of 9 finals and 6 championships.

Imagine if Kobe-Shaq had PJ for their entire primes+ and then it's easier to see how dominant they were and COULD have been.

So that's a 3 year average of 8.6 in MVP voting. Is there 5 players who had a better MVP voting average over those 3 years? Same with the other stats?

Kobe absolutely CRUSHED the western conference playoffs from 2001-2004.

Yea such an outlandish opinion that Kobe is top 5. Anyone with a semblance of a brain has him in their top 10. Top 5 is arguable.

He's 10 or higher in a lot of rankings, fwiw. None in the top 5.

I didn't think it was an insult

I was taking a similar position to yours about LeBron not being a top 5 player when he took the Cavs to the finals in 07 on here last year and I didn't mean that as an insult
