Currently, this is not close at all. Both are capable of being awful, but Winston also has insanely great stretches.

Winston

Not close

Mariota didn't do anything special last year, and was damn near the worst QB in the league through the first 5 games this year.

Mariota has posted a QB rating of 130+ four times in 20 career starts. Winston has done that just once in 22 starts.

You can certainly debate who has been better overall so far, but I don't see how their 'best' doesn't lean toward Mariota at this point. If we're talking only about "great stretches," it's Mariota. He may be the more inconsistent of the two but Mariota has 10 TD's and 1 Int in last 4 games. That's something Winston hasn't been close to replicating.

Yea, Marcus was terrible in the first month... but Winston also had 8 INT's in his first 4 games this year. I mean, where is the separation you're talking about here? They were both unimpressive to start the year.

Too early to tell, but the NFL desperately needs these two to be good. Mariota is very inconsistent but man is he fun to watch when he's on.

Slight edge to Mariota, I guess.

I know the 2 saying "Winston not close" and "Mariota not close" are wrong, I know that at least.

Mariota just has to eliminate the costly mistakes

Seems like one in every 5 games, Winston would throw for 4tds 350+yds making him look like he could be great.

Just shows you how Mariota covered up Helfrich sucking so bad.

no one overthrows 6'5" WR's more consistently than Jameis Winston

Yea, someone hasn't been paying attention. Not that the Titans were giving many reasons to watch...

Conklin and Lewan have been playing at a Pro Bowl level.

Pains me to say as a Bama fan, but the line got better once Warmack went out.

In 22 career starts, he's thrown for 350+ yards only twice. Never with 4 TDs.

Stats and stuff...

Not exactly, but fairly close to what my point was.. He looks real good every few games with a bunch of stinkers in between.

9/11 vs Atlanta 4td/1int
9/25 vs LA 405yds 3td/1int
10/23 vs SF 21/30 3td/1int

In the end I think they'll both have good careers. Could be steady top-10 (lower end) QBs by the next five years. Right now I think Mariota has shown more development and improvement. Winston is a lot like the same player he was at FSU, he just needs to clean up some parts of his game. Who's better? I don't know but they're both fun to watch. Both as capable of making a great play as they are an unbelievably bad one.

Winston was great in one game
Good in another
Poor in two

Mariota was the worst QB in the league to start the year.

Jameis was OPOTW in week one

Mariota's average QB ratio in first 4 games: 72.55
Winston's average QB rating in first 4: 74.35

QB rating is certainly not the sole measurement of ability or performance but what is Jameis if Marcus was the worst QB in the league to start the year... 2nd worst? what are we talking about here?

My point was and continues to be that there is little evidence to support any real separation of the two. You mention Winston as OPOTW in week one as support for Jameis. Is that supposed to be special? Mariota earned the same award in Week 1 last year and you said he didn't do anything special last year???
