The only reason it's a "thing" is because players like KD go out of their way to act like they are shorter than they are, for some weird reason.
I think it a hangover from when they were by far the tallest child at their school and other boys and girls teased them. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar brought it up in his autobiography - he tried to get a job as a soda jerk when he was in high school and he got turned down because he was too tall for the uniform. That's why the word was that Kareem was always taller than his listed height.
It's kind of silly, because you know all those guys were measured by the team that drafted them or traded for them. You think the Nets give two shits if KD is two inches taller than his listed height?

Most guys who participated in pre draft combine has official measurements online
Curry is 6’2” w/o shoes, 6’3.25” with them

quote:Glad to see some truth in heights in the modern NBA. 2019 the averge big man has remained roughly about 6-10 & the same as bigs from from '89 , '99 & the following from 1969.
Kd's height was pretty close. It was mostly others that were wrong
Elvin Hayes- 6'9
Nate Thurmond-6'11
Walt Bellamy- 6'11
Willis Reed- 6'9
Kareem- 7 plus
Wilt- 7 plus
Bill Russell (6'9) & most of these players would be listed 6'11 & 7'0 in the modern era. Heights haven't changed in 50 years , but weight training/ nutrition has.

Kevin Garnett used to underreport his height because he thought coaches would be more likely to make him play in the post if he had his real height listed.

Which makes the dominance of CP3 and Draymond even that more impressive
Explain this to someone who dismisses a player from the past because they are "undersized" or not athletic enough for the modern NBA . Green isnt an explosive athlete in any era,but........
Accurate heights will show that players heights on average haven't changed all that much anyway through the years.
