Own your thread man.

The answer is the mothers.

Women. They want to retain their identities. Honor their lineage.

So they give children both names.

The Spanish may have influenced this trend.
Hmmm?

Pat Mahomes is a II. And he doesn't put it on his jersey. And unlike these other jagoffs whose dad is a mailman or something, his Dad is actually a famous professional athlete with the same name. It makes me like him a lot more

Brian Poli-Dixon at UCLA was the first athlete I’ve ever heard of with a hyphenated last name.

I Remember when Patrick Peterson was Patrick Johnson. Patrick Johnson-Peterson

What a HORRIBLE example, he wanted to honor his grandfather with his last name. And he also does not have a hyphenated name.

Literally 100’s of better examples you should’ve chosen

How does a hyphenated name guy determine what to name the kids?

What if the kid grows up and wants to go double hyphen?

Nobody ever thinks ahead.

I read its a result of unmarried parents. They take both last names of suspected parents, if they think they know the Dad.

I’d probably go with the Griffey’s on that one.

MJD is the first I remember changing his name (after he got famous) to "honor his mother" and not due to religious conversion.

More specifically, who was the last athlete to convert to Islam and change their name?
