Machado is not a good choice. He's a step behind Trout, Donaldson, Altuve

I think Altuve is going to get it mostly because of novelty reasons - always fun to have a first timer.

I'd vote Donaldson though - dude is straight beast and you shouldn't be penalized for having your monster stats come late. If anything, it should be rewarded.

ETA: Agree with DallasTiger - Machado and his team are fading down the stretch bigly.

It's between Trout, Donaldson, Altuve, and Mookie.

If Mookie stays hot, man it's going to be hard to keep him of the podium.

It should go to Trout but it'll probably go to Altuve or Betts. It's a crime Trout doesn't have three MVP awards already. I'll give last year a pass because Donaldson was absolutely phenomenal in his own right. But this year is not even close. Trout has a good shot at getting to 11 WAR this year while nobody else will even come close to 10. He has a higher OPS than Betts and Altuve despite playing in a ballpark that is significantly more favorable towards pitchers. Mookie Betts is not even in the top 10 in OPS+ among American League hitters.

Trout.

Donaldson is a close 2nd. What a swing he has.

Mookie, Machado, Donaldson, Altuve, and Trout are all having MVP type years.

I love everything about Mookie Betts so I'll be pulling for him to get his first, but an argument could be made for any of those 5.

Mookie is probably my favorite player in the league and he is having an amazing year, but the gap in OBP between him and Trout is larger than the gap between Mookie and Marwin Gonzalez (who is at .291).

Mookie Betts is Altuve's biggest competition. Trout isn't even close to Altuve or Betts this season.

Altuve is the clear leader.

Mookie Betts is the top ranked player in all of baseball and a five-tool player of a team in contention. He is the leader.

Trout does Trout things. Pretty sure that he'll go 30/30, 100 Runs, 100 BB, 100 RBI, .300+, OBP, OPS, WAR, amazing catches etc.

Altuve, Donaldson, Betts and others are also having great seasons. Shoot Cabrera and Machado are having really good years. So there's a whole boatload of guys who are going to get votes.
