I don't think you can call local sports announcers "biased" like it's a bad thing. They are supposed to be homers since they are calling the game for their team's sports network.

It's the hometown broadcast, so it's okay for them to be biased in favor of the hometown team. Who cares what some guy thousands of miles away thinks about how impartial the announcers are who are calling the game? They aren't gearing it towards that guy. The broadcast is geared towards fans of that team.

It's fine to openly be for your team when you are the hometown announcers HOWEVER guys like the Rockets crew take it to such an extreme level they are actively making the Rockets fanbase dumber b/c they aren't actually basing their calls on reality.

Yep. FP Santangelo is almost as bad. I can tolerate it because I'm a Nats fan, but I can only imagine opposing fans listening to him.

Can't stand him nor his partner!!!!!

Homer could go either way.

Could mean "boneheaded" but I see you guys are going a different direction with this thread.

I obviously know what homer means when talking about an announcer. I figured it was a good opportunity to highlight good Madden quotes. Jeez, lighten up a little.

Southern board and all but I am surprised nobody has mentioned the Minnesota Viking's Paul Allen. Epitome of homer and makes Hawk sound impartial.

1. It's VernE. We're not talking about Ernest.

2. The only biases Verne has are for the Dallas Cowboys and (probably) the Texas Longhorns, considering he grew up in Austin.

3. Acknowledging Alabama's superiority isn't a bias. It's a fact. And I fricking hate Alabama.

The only national broadcaster who legitimately pissed me off was Brent Musberger in the mid 2000s. I'm an LSU guy and it really aggravated me that he openly campaigned for USC being #1 or "clearly the best ever" during their regular season games and Rose Bowls. I'm glad he got demoted to like the 3rd best SEC game of the week.

I agree with other posters that I like for the local announcers to be homers and it's their job to be homers. However, some take it too far and become shameless mouthpieces for team management and hopeless sunshine pumpers. Like saying there was "a lot of hope and promise" in a 49-3 loss, or acting like some scrub QB is a future Hall of Famer because he threw 3 touchdowns against the 31st ranked pass defense in the league.
