Any answer besides Mark Ingram is obviously a joke.
His rushing numbers are very comparable to Bo Jackson's 1985 Heisman-winning season. And Troy Smith's Heisman-winning numbers were not as good as AJ McCarron's numbers in 2012. The only difference between the two is that McCarron wasn't invited to New York.

Not to mention we are also supposed to do the impossible with a question like this and try to guess who we think would win if they played each other.
How is it impossible to guess?

He was thoroughly outclassed by Chris Leak in the MNC.

During Bo's time - way back when...
His Heisman 1,786 yards was the second best single-season performance in SEC history.
That year, he averaged 6.4 yards per rush, which at the time was the best single-season average in SEC history.
Ingram's YPC weren't near Bo's either.

His numbers in 2006 were very similar to the stats A.J. McCarron put up last year.
He played QB for an undefeated OSU team that was going to the NC game. The only real competition he had that year was from McFadden. McFadden put up numbers that were about as good as Ingram did in 09. Ultimately their seasons just ended on completely different notes. McFadden had a meh game while losing to UF in the SEC championship game. Smith had a great game and led OSU to victory over a #2 ranked Michigan team.

Any reason in particular that you went back 11 years on both of your lists?

3,846 yards and 40 TD passes seem deserving to me.

Troy Smith was the biggest joke of a Heisman ever. ESPN picked him week 1 and he won because they won all of their regular season games.

Are we talking about the 'least deserving' or the 'worst'? Those are qualitatively different.

The answer seems to be
Ohio State 2002
Troy Smith
I see a pattern forming here.
Hopefully after the season the answer doesn't change to Ohio State 2013 and Troy Smith.

Smith was the preordained Heisman winner by ESPN and when OSU went undefeated, it was over.
He definitely wasn't the most deserving player and was nowhere close to being the best player in the country. All stats aside, I genuinely think Leak was the better QB.
McFadden and Slaton had great years, and Brennan put up video game numbers (granted it was in the WAC, but he had an insane season).

Well I would say neither for him. He was no worse than Smith and on par with Leinart and Palmer. People unfairly define him based on OU's '03 choke job/undeserving NC appearance, '04 shellacking by USC, his lack of an NFL career, and age when he played.

Darren McFadden should have been the Heisman winner in 2006.
