Also this was a brief period of time but when the Angels called up Francisco Rodriguez in 2002 he was basically unhittable. He's had a terrific career since but in the beginning it was just ridiculous.

Nine shutouts that year.

I didn't get hard into baseball until I was older, but Strasburg's first couple of starts were one of the more incredible things I've seen.
Of course now with Aroldis Chapman throwing 102 consistently, some of the luster has worn off, but Stras was tapping 98 late into the game.

I played baseball in high school and let me tell you there was a younger guy named colt griffin who ended up being a first round pick way back a long time ago and if you've never seen 98-100 mph which as a high schooler I had not ever seen, I can attest first hand, that you can't see the ball. I don't know why he never made it as a reliever, but man could he sling it. I grew some hair on my balls that day

Braves rotating during prime years. Schilling. That early 90s a Giants staff. I grew up close to Atl, and have seen all the main guys in the NL. That Phillies/Braves rivalry was fun.

Its tough to say just who, singular. I've seen a number of guys who were just lights out, different than anyone else you ever see pitch going to big league games.
Young Doc was astonishing; Pedro was a king of his craft; Nolan and Roger and Randy all had phenomenal heat-- but the single guy I walked away from being most impressed by the entire repertoire?
Johan Santana

Orel Hershisher in 1988 was the best I've seen.
Especially the 2nd half of the season.
Nobody could hit him. The Mighty Mets with Straw couldn't hit him. The Bash Bros. couldn't hit him.
23 wins
15 complete games
8 shutouts
He set a major league record by pitching 59 consecutive innings without allowing a run. He helped lead the Dodgers to a championship in the 1988 World Series, and was named the National League (NL) Championship Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the World Series MVP.
That season, he won the NL Cy Young Award and an NL Gold Glove Award.

Too many to remember, single season or career? For career I'll go with Warren Spahn only because I was at the game against the Cubs when he got his 300th win. Yeah, I'm an old guy. My mother's family is from the Chicago area. We were visiting her brother in Libertyville, IL when my uncle who was a policeman got some tickets to the game in Milwaukee. Several of the adults took those of us who were old enough to the game. I didn't realize what a milestone it was but I do remember all of my relatives who were Chicago fans were pulling for Spahn. All except one female cousin who could not pull against the Cubs. I still remember Eddie Mathews making an error late in the game that kept the Cubs alive. Also, a sliding catch by a Braves outfielder on his knees where he slide several feet on the wet grass. I was later reminded that I had witnessed history.

One f the best seasons ever no doubt....
BUT Bob Gibson was unreal.... AND If I had to pick ONE pitcher over A span of seasons it has to be what Pedro did in the early 2000's... Pitching in the AL With the DH was simply amazing......

Nolan Ryan
Nolan Ryan was A special pitcher but had WAY to many walks.... It was either A 10-12 strikeout game with A one hitter or no hitter or he would get rocked... To inconsitant for me... I would take Maddox or Randy Johnson over Nolan
