What is the best OLine/DLine combo that they will face? You have to be able to block them and be able to disrupt Sayin and the running game without leaving massive gaps in the secondary for those WR’s to torch you.

I had to look it up - they were somehow favored against UF which was laughable. LSU was a 7pt favorite - we had time to get healthy and you just got the feeling we weren’t going to squander the miracle (Dave Wannstedt TYFYS)

But I think Indiana, UGA, A&M, Oregon have legit shots. Bama could go off like against Georgia but don’t have that Saban consistency.

Would have liked to have seen Kiffin try to scheme against that defense.

Oregon could maybe hang if their QB played lights out

Texas backdoored that 7 points and at no point did they seem to threaten that game at all.
Twice in the 4th qtr Ohio state had to stop them on 4th down around their own 15 yard line that prevented Texas tying

Multiple injuries is the chance to beat OSU

Best Defense
Best QB
Best WRs
Best DC
Best Head Coach in the game

Legit when has there been a team that has the best defense and potentially the best offense at the same time?

I meant in the playoffs.
I should have clarified.

If Ohio State brings their A game I don't think they can be beat.

I don't think they're some all-world team. Favorable schedule and have looked really sluggish at times.

I think Georgia, Bama, Indiana, A&M, Oregon would be good games that could go either way. Some others maybe as well. Notre Dame has looked strong at times and could also beat them.

ETA:

They're the favorite for sure. But just saying they aren't very tested this season and I don't think they're some juggernaut that no one can match up with. Lots of teams in the CFP will give them very good games that could go either way.

Ehh… that’s not exactly true. Texas scored on their second to last possession to make it 14-7 and on their last possession got stopped at midfield.

Best defense? Accepted, although they haven't been tested at all
Best offense? All world receivers, but the QB is a game manager so not at all

I really dont think anyone's games from August should be used to evaluate where these teams are today, in december. That was how many thousands of snaps of football ago? You dont think anyone has improved or changed since then?

People keep going back to that Texas game but the truth is Ohio State won which 6 of the 8 sec teams Texas has faced failed to do and Ohio State held Texas to fewer points than any sec team did.

Draw whatever conclusions you want from that game but some of you are under the impression that Ohio State luckily snuck out a win vs Texas while the rest of the sec smoked Texas all season, which isnt really at all close to what happened.

I watched the entire game

Texas lost 14-7

They turned it over on downs on the Ohio state 1 yard line, Ohio state 9 yard line, and midfield all in the second half

That game was extremely close and anyone pretending otherwise is foolish

Personally I’m getting 2006/2007 vibes from this team when they got hosed by Florida & LSU as heavy favorites in the tile game.

Those Ohio State teams just didn't have the defenses to begin competing with the best sec teams. 2005 was actually the better Ohio State defense, 2006 had like 10 new starters and got exposed at the end of the year.

Really those games showed how far ahead the sec was in the trenches more than anything though. Those sec teams had size AND speed on the d line which we just didnt face in the big 10 and weren't at all prepared for. That 2006 game against Florida is still the most dominating performance I can remember from any d line in a single game. We always had speed at the skill positions (see ted ginn) but you guys had speed everywhere.

Ohio State was very competitive against LSU in the 2007 title game. If I remember correctly two personal fouls kept LSU scoring drives alive. One of which was roughing the punter. Ohio State had their chances in that game but didn't get the job done and LSU made them pay for it.

Do you think the current OSU team beats Texas by 20 if they play this weekend?

If you think otherwise it's foolish

No

You have played one ranked team since Texas, Michigan, who got its brains blown in by Oklahoma very similar to what Ohio state did to them. . You won by 18

Ohio state is very good, maybe even the best team in the country, but their “dominance” this season is a product of their schedule
