5. Ben Howland
5A. Mark Few

Hon. Mention- I think Bob Huggins is one of the best coaches in CBB but I wouldn't want him near my program for ethics reasons.

Calipari is a great recruiter but his coaching leaves something to be desired

so ben howland officially most overrated or what? he's been mentioned like 5 too many times in this thread. there's a relatively clear cut top 6 IMO, and he's not in it.

Coach K-Adapts very well to the players he has, changes the team's style to fit the talent.
Tom Izzo- His teams aren't fun to watch, but they are very consistent.
Roy Williams- Not a great in-game coach, but probably the guy who recruits the best without being shady.
Jim Boeheim-Know how to coach a zone better than anyone else.
Rick Pitino-Great pressure defense. Probably does the most with the least.

Almost in the top 5
Jim Calhoun-Great at finding underrated or under the radar players, but has questionable ethics.
Jamie Dixon-The best young coach in the game in my opinion. With two more great seasons, he will make the top 5. Just needs some NCAA tournament success.
John Calipari-His recruiting is a little overrated right now. His 2009 class at UK is unbelievable, but name his second best class (it's probably the CDR/Dorsey/Shawne Williams class).
Bill Self-Kind of reminds me of Roy. Brings in great players but isn't the best in-game coach.
Bob Huggins-I hate this guy's coaching style and attitude, but he gets teams in the top 10 in a very short time.
Jay Wright-Has done well at Villanova, but he needs some more time before is considered a great coach.

I like that he finally got a mention but he's not a top 5 coach.

He's a good coach and lately an even better recruiter but his success lately is more based on talent than his coaching ability.

He's only won one post-season tournament and that was before he came to Texas. In seven of his ten years at Texas, the Longhorns have lost to a lower seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Maybe he'll change my mind if he can win a championship this season.

im not trying to be a homer (sorta) and i have no problems with a lotta lists that dont have bill self in them. but i can't for the life of me think of reasons to put fricking rick barnes in over bill self.

nothing against self. i like how he won at tulsa and assembled that illinois team with dee brown, deron williams, james augustin, luther head, etc. but this is just like my personal top 5, not who i actually think are the five best coaches across the board.

i lived in austin for 5 years and went to many UT games, worked with many players over the summers and they all liked barnes a lot. i like how he coaches his team. he's come up a day late and a dollar short most of the time in the tournament but this could be a special year for them.

if you want the 5 best coaches in america i think obviously calhoun, roy and boeheim are in the discussion.

oh yeah those 3 are definitely up there. and yeah your bottom 3 were questionable, but i see how you did a personal favorite type of thing.

i wasn't advocating or bitching that self wasn't there, but just saying that their records and successes in the same conference speak for themselves (in self's favor). i was confused until i understood the way you did it.

i like barnes as well, but wish he would stop doing such a good job
