They have to act now because the B1G is a year away from paying out $100 mil a year per school and the SEC will be at $70 mil a year.
It's an arms race and if you arent moving forward your falling behind.

That graph is pre USC and UCLA. The B1G is in negotiations for their new TV deal right now

That’s not gonna suddenly make big time recruits pop up in B1G country or give them Saban, Kelly, Fisher, Kiffin, Leach, etc.

With all of the movement to the South in the last few years, this gap will only widen in the future.

Vanderbilt — 37K
That can’t be right… especially with an SEC schedule
I feel like just one big opposing fanbase watching an SEC game would boost Vandy’s average over 100K or so
But they have less viewers than ULM

Kinda wild that the Big 10 has so many at the top
That is some unwatchable trash most of the time and they still get the viewers
Pretty eye opening

Huge schools, huge alumni, Midwest...full of transplants in Los Angeles and New York. Pretty much everybody in the media, went to a Big10 school. The SEC never really stopped being mostly regional due to stay at home ethos despite all its success.

I hear you
And I love the vibe of the football scene up there
I watch and enjoy it but shit, it ain’t great
I love football in the south but tailgating up there is one hell of a time
I guess I get the viewership now that you say that

Badgers 11.
That puts 5 of top 11 B1G.
3 of top 11 SEC.
I will take any wins I can find over the SEC??

Considering UGA, UT, UF, and UK all averaged over a millions viewers, you'd think Vandy's would be a little higher with just those four games.

12. Nebraska — 2.29M
I mean this is the answer. Why the Big10 is going to get a monster TV contract with addition of USC/UCLA. People in the South have always underestimated how powerful the Big10 is in terms of reach across the nation.
Nebraska stinks.
But they get the TV eyes.
Far better programs that were ranked below Nebraska.
Texas — 2.26M
Florida — 2.21M
Arkansas — 2.03M
LSU — 1.90M
Texas A&M — 1.86M
Clemson — 1.74M
Big10 is a juggernaut for TV eyes nationwide and Fox knows this.

Not on a game by game basis. Even the worst SEC matchups minus Vanderbilt are watchable and can sometimes be entertaining and have some sellable aspects.
Way too many of the Big Ten teams bring nothing to the conference in terms of a product that rivals the SEC pound for pound.
Now it is not directly relevant to sports yet, but Rutgers has the smallest endowment in the B1G at $2 billion that would put them at the 4th wealthiest school in the SEC. Just simply with NIL if B10 donors ever started to care, which they probably will not could mean something.
