Aggie was stupid to pull the rug from Stoops. He would have been fine there.

And this is not a bad thing for Tulane. They should embrace it. Be a school that really good young coaches want to use a stepping stone. Keep your program good.
Tulane has been that for the past 45 years. Tulane was too often too stupid to hire them.
Tulane has never been a hard place for a good coach to win. It's the average or below coach who has no chance. And Tulane is so deferential and patient with bad coaches, that bad coaches are attracted to the place.
That said, the NIL era makes things a bit better.
But it's not so easy to snap your fingers and just hire the good young coach and he automatically succeeds. Sumrall was the obvious coach to hire. But the next guy won't be so obvious.

Tulane should have a shortlist NOW.
You've gone from good hire (Fritz) to good hire (Sumrall). You'd better have 1-2 options on deck in case you lose Sumrall.

Nah. They’ve routinely hired bums they thought wouldn’t leave.
Especially after they went undefeated and got poached. They got super butthurt after that and went the bum route

I just hate that this is a real conversation after week 1.
Tulane may not actually deliver this year for all we know.

Fritz's last 2 teams were 12-2 and 11-3. Sumrall was 9-5 last year. Will he be viewed as ready fpr an SEC job if he wins 10 this year?

It will always be the conversation at Tulane. It shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the season.
I cheer for Tulane fyi. I wish they could keep him.

A bad SEC job sure.
The ceiling for the SEC jobs that will be available to him is 8-4. Unless Auburn comes open. If Sun Belt billy gets fired they wont hire another mid major coach to replace him.

He's not going to kentucky. He's only leaving for an SEC school where he can win a National
Championship.
Championship.

He turned down Miss St. already. If it's not the upper tier SEC he's not going. He actually loves New Orleans, is paid well and has more support from the University and Alumni than any coach including Tommy Bowden. He will leave, but it will be for an Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU, Florida, etc. I really do not think he's interested in Kentucky.

A bad SEC job sure.

While I don't disagree he may eventually end up a bigger call, he loves Kentucky and Lexington. It's why he left Ole Miss as a position coach to come back and coach here under Stoops, even when Stoops was feeling the heat then.
Our issue is going to be Barnhart fricked us on Stoops' contract and unless he leaves to go elsewhere it'll be at least another season before we can get rid of him. And I imagine someone bigger may come calling before then.

Is UK really thinking of firing Stoops?
We were awful last season. He had to pretty much overhaul the roster this season because of some big culture issues and inmates running the asylum. He hasn't been the same since his ex-wife dumped his arse. Been too busy eating steak at Jeff Ruby's and chasing co-eds. We just barely beat Toledo and we have the #5 SOS in the country. It's going to be a long, long season.
Unfortunately we're locked into a shitty contract with him.

If tweet fails to load, click here. He’s not going to Kentucky

Well that's it. No CFB HC has ever said things like that and still left.
ETA: He's friends with Stoops, he's not going to undermine the guy's position at this point.

Either way, we probably miss out and he ends up at Alabama or some shite. Because that's pretty par for the course for us. It'll be Schnellenberger all over again, just missing out.

honestly I dont see why anyone would want to go into the SEC unless you are hired at one of the top 8 schools. Outside of pride, i guess. Id rather coach Tulane than Kentucky but im sure the 2nd & 3rd tier SEC schools pay more. But you'll never win anything
