I think you're confusing him with McHale.
my point about Walton's career being marred by injuries still stands. If we're going by "white players" and not "white players' careers", I think he's top 10.

And don't insult his athletic ability by calling him a smart player.
Only if you make it that way. He was a good athlete, not elite. Saying that his basketball IQ was the best ever is about as good of a complement as I could give someone. And I ranked him #6 fwiw behind MJ, Magic, Shaq, Kareem, and Wilt. I struggled with him and Wilt and wouldn't have an issue with swapping them.

Walton played for the Celtics in the late 80's, so they may have played against each other, but Walton certainly was a shell of himself by that point.
I conceded that Bird would go in the list of the Top 10 "in their prime".

The only problem I have with these lists is people always assume older is better. Not sure how you compare players like Duncan and Shaq to Jabbar, Russell and Wilt.

Dominique was an elite athlete. Bird was a good athlete.
The part where I feel people underrate him is his all-around game. A lot of people remember him as a sharp shooter, but he was good in the post, he could rebound, defend, and was an awesome passer. He did it all.

Fwiw, I'm gonna go ahead and say this man DESERVES to be a top ten white player of all time. Its harder to get whiter.
I'm not going to debate Larry, because its painfully obvious I'm biased.
That being said,
at that entire thought.

quote:I agree. I think we're kinda arguing semantics here. I just bristle a bit when the first thing people compliment about Bird was his intelligence when he really was just an otherworldly player in every way. People seem to forget that (not saying that's what you're doing).
