For a “storied” program, they’re surrounded by Alabama, Auburn, Florida, UGA, etc. Are there enough people just in the Florida panhandle to be a fan base?

It’s basically the Florida panhandle as far as home grown fans, but they’ve got alumni based in all the big Florida cities and Atlanta

Subtle, "I don't live in Florida", brag.

I'm not sure where the line of casual fandom is drawn in Florida between UF and FSU but if FSU owns the panhandle then yes that's quite a few people.

The best thing about the former opiate capital of planet earth is the bass fishing. those lakes grow big bass and they are shallow and flat. The bass are either in 2 foot of water in heavy grass or in 2 foot of water and normal grass. This is from January to december.

You see an FSU plate or sticker more often than you'd think here in SC.

Definitely the panhandle. I lived in Orlando area for years and central Florida is Gator country. All my mom's family is from there, and all graduated from Florida. Of course, south Florida is the Hurricanes. And, as with many places, it depends on who's winning at that particular time for the "Heat fans" to come out in droves to support "their team". It was hilarious watching allegiances go from the Canes in the 80s, to the Criminoles in the early 90s, all the way to the Gators by 95'.

The Panhandle is not owned by any one fanbase. It's a mix of FSU, UF, Bama and Auburn

Yup basically panhandle and maybe some fans in Jacksonville

They do have huge alumni bases in Orlando, Tampa and Miami.

Saw a ton of FSU stuff at my cousin's wedding down in Palm Beach County. Was actually surprised since they're further from Miami than UF.

FSU is a huge school that attracts students from all of the state’s major metro areas, and the alumni bases reflect that.

A lot of Florida State “fans” in early 90’s in the Baton Rouge area when LSU was down and Warrick Dunn was their RB. Maybe it was just a Starter jacket thing

It also helps them when teams like Alabama/Auburn/Georgia are in down cycles; the last 20 years have not been kind as the SEC has been so remarkably strong.
