The idea of doing something because you said you would seems to be lost these days...
The bowls are going to die. As somebody else mentioned I think they’ll be kickoff games in the future, which kinda makes sense. At least everybody will play in them.
Only way the big bowls will keep their luster is if they’re used as the quarterfinals when the playoff goes to 8.

Florida was literally playing in legitimately meaningful games until this game.

I’ve said this many times, but I’ll say it again:
Our society has placed too much importance on the ability to excel at sports. I am guilty of being part of that crowd. It’s not just sports. It’s musical ability, acting, and entertaining in general. Our society have given these people a reason to have such an inflated ego, which has in turn given them power to speak about our political climate. It’s a sad reality. Most on this board laugh when some TV star or Lebron get on their soapbox and try to act holier than thou. What’s sad is that many folks eat that shite up.
These athletes have been pampered since their elementary school days in some cases. Momma puts their highlights on YouTube, and they start to get a following. College scholarships essentially pay for these kids to go to school for free, eat the best food available, get the best training and facilities, and top tier medical care. Meanwhile, your students who go on to become doctors, teachers, lawyers, scientists, etc are often saddled with student loans. They live in dorms, they eat in the dining hall with everyone else. They pay for their books.
It’s an out of control monster.

King? So you justify him sitting out against Okie State, even though he comes back next year?
Then he may as well sit out any garbage no conference game. Once the Canes hit two losses, he may as well sit out the rest. Why stop there? A national title doesn’t make him money? Does it?

Whichever poster thinks that this will be the only year kids can opt out, I’m willing to bet my paycheck that you are wrong. Hell this might even become the new norm. Just like the first coach or parent that came up with the novel idea of a participation trophy.

This is the only potential fix to college football, IMO. Make most bowl games opening season kickoffs and expand the playoffs. OOC games are more meaningful at start of season with everyone playing.

The easiest solution will never happen. A player’s draft status would have to be negatively affected by “opting out.” Either programs refuse to hold pro days for players that quit, coaches won’t give any kind of endorsement to scouts, and NFL teams hold it against a player.
