What's your take on the current homerun situation in the MLB?

Throughout the playoffs teams are scoring almost exclusively via the homerun. How do you like it?

Runs per game league wide this season are on par with the 1993 season, yet homerun percentages are nearly double I believe.

Logic would tell you that if there's more homeruns there should be more total runs but that's not the case.

Is this good or bad long term?

Shifting takes away a lot Of hits. If you want to score you need xbh. With velo at an all time high hard to get 3 hits in an inning. Draw walks and hit dingers.

Focus on the three true outcomes makes the game boring for most teams

Not a big fan, there needs to be balance.

Homeruns are fun and exciting but it's over in 10 seconds. Long sustained rallies with a bunch of hits, working counts etc I like more as you get longer intense moments and half innings.

Exactly. You’re pretty much only going to see good pitchers in the playoffs, it’s hard to put together multiple hits in a row. You want to score on stud pitchers, then you have to hit homers.

If there are still NL purists.

Bunt and move the runner.

I think it's bad because it's mostly either home-run, strikeout or walk in the game now, not much action on the bases.

Analytics driven of course...the data shows that booming the homers is statistically higher percentage that station to station, even if it results in many more strikeouts.

Just like in basketball where the data shows the 3 is the way to go and the post game is dying, bunting, stealing, hit and runs, pitchouts, choking up and going the other way are dying in baseball.

Yesterday's Stros/A's game was mostly homeruns. Pretty dull game to watch tbh - very few baserunners.

10 scoring plays yesterday during Marlins-Braves and only 4 were HRs. FWIW

I get it with the analytics, but I hate watching a ton of strikeouts in a game. It has definitely contributed to my declining interest in MLB over the years

MLB needs to quietly behind the scenes deaden the ball. If HRs are harder to hit because of a dead ball that will shift the analytics back to a game of small ball. Hits, steals, bunts, moving a runner over, etc. This is one thing they could do to change how the game is played without making a bunch of rule changes.

MLB misses the mark thinking it is solely about more runs, it's about more action.

LOL, players are still using PEDs as much as they were in the "steroids era". They try to explain away the increased amount of homeruns as some launch angle bs. It really is laughable

The balls are still juiced. So many of the HRs shouldn’t be, it’s fun but also kinda ridiculous some of the ones that get out

There is a knowledgeable contingent of retired MLB vets who insist that the ball is juiced intentionally by MLB front office.

This is ridiculous.
The analytics will never shift in favor of bunts. Bunts aren’t bad because you can hit a HR, bunts are bad because giving away an out isn’t smart.
